Some with highschool NFL, though I did indivual events, except for a brief stint in Student Congress. But.. I know some things about the debating side. ARe you looking for policy or LD?

Probably a little of both. Something along the lines of structuring a debate and what are considered reasonable sources for support of assertions. I haven't done debate since 1984, so I'm a little out of touch ;)

I've had a lot of experience with Policy debate, so I could help with that. I could also talk to any of my current debate friends if you need anything from them. I could talk to my guy friend, who, although we both competed in policy, has much more experience because his school could fund more trips to tournaments (private school and all) so he has a bit more experience. I could talk to him, if you'd like. :)

Member of the NFL for four years in high school. :) Frosh year was mostly IE, from sophomore year on, I did policy debate with one of my best friends. I thought about debating at university but then I thought bettter when I came up to Oregon. I'm not fond of debate up here.

I've been in the NFL for 6 years. High school and then the two years after that. I did Policy debate and some Interp and Platform speaking. Quad-rubied. Since then, I've been quasi-coaching the team from my high school, judging non-stop and have taught at debate camp one summer. *is aspiring HS debate coach* I've got close ties with coaches of a couple different nationally competitive college teams, and like 10 of my RL LJ friends compete on the HS and college level right now. Anything I can help you with?

Dude, you're just like everyone else I know from debate. w00t! Where did you compete? I did policy debate in CA for four years, pretty much. I was going to do some in Uni, but I decided that getting into Oregon debate would be a hassle. It's not difficult, it's a different style, and I'm not fond of it. If I were at home, I'd LOVE to assist. coach for my h.s. team. One of my best guy friends is currently assist. coaching on the East Coast - he's a maniac like me...maybe worse. Haha.

Have you ever heard of some CA schools (nationally competitive ones, of course), like Bellarmine College Prep (sometimes going as Hella Prep or Folsom Prison...don't ask), College Prep School (CPS - one of their teams won TOC this past year), Harker Academy, Head-Royce...

Sorry, I'm babbling. I'm just glad to find someone else online who's been in the NFL and KNOWS what I'm talking about (since you competed in Policy).

I competed for a little school in North-West Arizona. I was invited to debate in Uni by a couple of schools, but to be totally honest, was too lazy. They take that stuff way too seriously for me, thanks. The coach of my HS team wants me to take his job when I get out of college, and I'm all about it. For now, I'm like the team mom, only cooler. *wink*

No, I haven't heard of those schools. We're such a small team, we rarely go out of state, and when we do, we usually don't do fantastically. But yay for being 11-time (10 in a row) State Champions, no? GO RVHS! *dorks it up*

:: grins :: Team mom. Man, I wish I was at home. I'd love to be my H.S.'s team mom. :) Or at least, in a place where I'd even LIKE to be team mom. I'm not fond of the Oregon debate system in general, and their H.S.'s practice it (obviously) so I couldn't even help out a team here! Bah.

w00t! That's awesome, state champions. I, unfortunately, went to a H.S. that had only in the past 5 years or so established a speech and debate team. (the first year was my freshman year) so first off, we had a coach who was good at IE, but horrible at Policy, so we essentially had to teach ourselves. Which is why we weren't as experienced as some other schools in my area (like Bellarmine and the like). It's unfortunate, really.

I did Duo several times, Congress, and Policy Debate was my primary event.

I'm going to take this to IM or something, so we can stop spamming Heidi's poor LJ. :P

Yup. I debated in HS my sophomore year. That's when I determined that I would NOT make a good trial lawyer.

OTOH, my partner and I managed to kick butt a couple of times to win some trophies.
