Ick.

It's a pity that in October 2005 I'll be busy stressing about my HSC exams!

I'll be out of college by then and if I'm teaching, I don't care if they won't let me go. I'll call in sick. ;) I and a few others are already looking to put together a panel or something on Percy. :D

Salem sounds great. One question: Why did they decide to have it in October? Seems that HPEF would want it at a time when it would draw the most attendees. It's unlikely that an October Syposium would draw a large group. If we have to wait to attend one every two years, wouldn't it be better to have it when the majority of people could attend?

But there is no plan to always space them two years apart - just to take two years between these first two events. In part, it's because so many people are having localized events for the PoA release, and it's also so those of us who were involved in 10 straight months of insanity could rake a break and reorganize where need be.

HPEF does plan to release a call for bids for a 2006 event within the next week or two, and so intends to have another event between 8 and 12 months after Salem.

The time frame seems reasonable and I'm not discounting the need for the organizers of Nimbus to have some time off (even though I thought this would be a completely different group). My question is: Obviously, 2004 was out due to PoA and the need for the people who worked so hard on Nimbus to have a break so that they would be motivated to volunteer in 2005. Seems reasonable. The year isn't what I have a question about, nor the location. I am wondering if the next symposium shouldn't take place during the summer since a great many of the participants are either high school or college aged, from academia (presenters), or just more likely to be able to get away and come to Salem.... I don't think I will have a problem going to it, but I wonder how many will? People seem motivated now, but I wonder how many more you would get with a summer time frame?
