1. We've changed the submission form thingy over on FictionAlley a bit - you can see my post about it over on [livejournal.com profile] fiction_alley. Hope it makes life easier for some and no more difficult for any.

2. The authorlist meme, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] flourish

3. Remember the Beta Fish I was fretting about almost 3 weeks ago? It's still alive!

4. I am running my son's school's Scholastic Book Fair, and am the proud custodian of an poster plugging OotP as well as the Scholastic Interviews the Authors video, which includes an interview with JKR. If it's not the same one that she did with Lizo of the BBC, I'm going to transcribe it and put it up on TLC. Ah, the perks of parenthood!

5. In listening to OotP, I have had three brainstorms which will be used in Surfeit of Curses, and one major issue regarding the Black Family Tree, which I posted about here. Man, does that woman need a beta reader. Her timelines are so whacked.

Re: your Last of the Blacks....

Well, it could be one of those icky misogynistic things.... Like, my dad is The Last of the Greens, because he had no male offspring to carry on the name...

If he'd said "the last Black" then that would make sense, but the whole "of the" bit just felt like more of a reference to a line than a name.

I agree. Sloppy sloppy writing, and so in need of good Betas.

(Speaking of, congrats on FishyBeta living on!)

Ah, you've noticed the oddball timelines in the HP series too? I try not to think about time in HP because my brain starts to go flooey and I need to take a rest. Of course, then I tried to make an Honorverse timeline and now I have a brain of mush. Why are SF authors so crap with time and numbers? You'd think it would be the other way around.

Heidi, you're lovely.

The last two lines of point five made me laugh.

5. I don't see a problem with it meaning, well, the last of the Blacks. The last in that family line able to carry on the surname "Black." Draco certainly doesn't count, because his last name is Malfoy, and I don't see him changing it to Black any time soon. :) I guess the 'of the' doesn't signify anything to me, other than being a figure of speech. Nor does the fact that the old fogey in the painting would bemoan the death of the Black's in relation to the discontinuation of a surname -- pretty common to do so in times past.

And, I confess you lost me completely with the business about Narcissa being Draco's stepmother...or a teenage pregnancy...or...um. Is that a separate issue altogether? It reads like a continuation of the Black issue, but seems to have nothing to do with it. Particularly why she would have to be 15 in order for...something timeline-wise to work out correctly. *absolutely confused*

I know this is off topic to your LJ post (not that you mind right? lol), but I was over at FAP and saw your status thing and laughed right out loud. Actually, I read your signature first and then looked to see what that was about. And just felt like spamming your LJ with this interesting little tidbit ;)

PS. Glad the fish is still alive.

Do you know how many people have been freaked out by my status this week, and emailed me frightened about it, or, stupidly, complaining that they don't know what 'wotcher' means?

Hehe. Aww. Well I'm glad that I saw your signature first, otherwise I'd probably be freaked out at first too.
