The Sidekick has dropped in price to under $200 - it's a phone, a pda, an email device, a web browser and (for $35 more) a camera - plus it has AIM. If you're in the US and in the market for a new phone, I really recommend it.

Edited to add: I've tweaked the url above to include the FA affiliation info - if you do buy it by clicking above, you'll be donating to FA without paying anything more out of pocket

I've been holding off on the cell business because I wanted to wait until there was better net capability, and I've been curious about those for a while. I've been looking up the service plans--pay as you go is good for me, since I'm not much of a phone person; did you add additional cell minutes to that, or not worry about it? (Hmm, and if I make myself an FA link, will FA get a kickback?)

Ooohh pretty! When my mother asked late last school year, what I thought I might like when I graduated from college this year I said probably a cellphone or a pda. Now I will seriously have to keep this in mind for the end of the year, because this way I'll have both.

No, Blackberrys don't have AIM and they don't text either, although I was always able to back&forth with Cassie on it. This Sidekick has phone capability, but you don't have to turn it on - you can get it, and not activate the phone, and pay $29/month for unlimited email and web and AIM and I think it's a little more/month for the text messaging, but I'm not sure how much more. And it'll still have a phone capability if you ever need to call 911, you'll be able to do so without activating the phone and it'll be a free call.

You can add it right on amazon when you make the purchase. Cool, eh?

The T-Mobile site has the national plans listed:
http://www.t-mobile.com/plans/default.asp?nav=hm2

As I understand it, the text messaging is unlimited and free, and you pay .20 a minute for any calls. I could be completely off on this. But whatever; it's still a great deal. *orders*
