Of course, they didn't say where on the web this was, so it took some
digging through YAHOO to find it, and I am glad I did.
I will be going to Miami Beach's BOOKS & BOOKS at around 11:30 tonight -
they also are offering to deliver the book between 1am and 7am anywhere
on Miami Beach, but my husband & I want to be part of the excitement of
getting it as soon as possible.
We'll be accompanied by our 11 month old son Harrison, who, obviously,
is named after the book. When I went into labor on July 31 last year,
naming him something that we could shorten to Harry was a given!
I'm looking forward to coming back tomorrow to see what y'all have to
say about the book!

Yes, in about 45 minutes or so, it'll have been three years since I joined the fandom. Back then, I'd heard of fanfic, from my time on a mailing list about the old British tv show The Tomorrow People, but I'd never read any, and I'd certainly never written any. I'd discussed the HP books on a certain list called The Friends Zone (: waves to various zoners-through-the-ages on current LJ-friends list) and I'd never felt the need to go searching for discussion of the books online - until that Friday, when I went over to the Washington Post to read Caroline Hax's column, as I did every friday, and saw an article in the Post's Style section about Harry Potter. So I read it and it mentioned this Yahoo club and I joined and I found...

God, over the past three years, how can I encapsulate what I've found in the few scant minutes I have left before Jon wakes up?

First of all, I've found all of you.
I've (co)founded this.
I've found a tonne of news stories for this (thanks, BK and Melissa (and Lizo, and Ms Jo herself) for making it amazing!).
I've found how hardworking people can be when they volunteer for something they're enjoying, they think is important, or they're otherwise committed to, thanks to things like and these guys.
I've found this and this and this and more Finn fans, and people who know what BROS is and people who can help me decide what technology to embrace next and a good excuse of owning and using a Blackberry and now a Sidekick and a way to spend far too much money on cellphone calls, primarily to her and her and her.

And Jon is waking up, so I'll spend some more time this afternoon thinking of everything I've found in the past three years.

And how, overall, despite certain Very Bad Days, I'm really glad that I have.

And the list of things I've discovered just through *you* is even longer than that. :D

Happy three years in the fandom! We're very glad to have you. :)

Yay for the three-years-in-the-fandom-anniversary celebrators! I'm one too! Well...that's not strictly true, more like three-years-since-discovering-the-fandom anniversary for me. I found it in July 2000, shortly after GoF was released, and read Cassie's fics, and got into it. I got busier in spring 2001 and after that was only able to visit occasionally. Got back into it in December 2002, registered at FA in February, and here I am. So an anniversary of sorts for me too.
Anyway, speaking as a person who was in a pre-FA fandom, I really appreciate all you have done for the fandom. You're an extremely helpful and involved mod, an excellent writer, and seem like a wonderful person. I wish I was going to Nimbus so I could meet you.
Happy anniversary and thanks!
