I spent Sunday on pretty-much-bed-rest for most of the day.

I had two contractions on Saturday night, after *really* overdoing it running around with Harry that day, and my doctor told me I had to stay, if not actually in bed, then definitely on one floor for the day. I had extreme lower back pain, but wasn't supposed to get a massage until my doctor's appointment, which was conveniently scheduled for Monday afternoon anyway.

So they'll throw me on the nonstress test machine this afternoon and make sure that everything is fine with my uterus.

I'll be starting my 7th month at the end of this week, which means that it is far, far, far too early for Jumper to consider showing up yet, but if this means I have to do less running around, I can deal with it.

Now, does anyone know how to update LJs (or read them) via email?

Now, in terms of quizzes, I took the

Liberal
Where do you fall on the liberal - conservative political spectrum? (United States)

brought to you by Quizilla

But I had a problem with the answers to the abortion question. It asked:

What do you believe as concerns Abortion?

And I don't believe any of those answers. I do think that third-trimester abortions should only be allowed to save the mother's life or health, including mental health, but I don't think that's really legislatable because if one *really* wants to have an abortion in the third trimester, then clearly one's mental health has some *issues*. Legislating a two day waiting period with counseling if one wants to have a third trimester abortion, where such counseling can be done via phone and to a local and/or 800 number, would probably mesh with what I feel is reasonable, because it's not unduly burdensome, but it would provide a stopgap for someone who's having some terrible hormone fluctuations...

So I chose any procedure any time, but really... if the baby is reasonably healthy and the mother won't be seriously affected physically or mentally by giving birth but doesn't want the child, then induce labor any time after 32 weeks and put the child up for adoption.

Of course, this would affect what, three? four? births a year? Not a huge number. But it's a reasonable approach, imho.

Heidi, I know it is almost laughable to suggest that you take it easy, given the million and one things you constantly are doing, but please look after yourself. We want you and Jumper in the best possible shape, which means hanging in there quite a bit longer. *hugs gently* (And BTW I think your abortion views are entirely reasonable.) Take care for the next few weeks please!

hey Jumper ... stay put, will you? And don't kick Mummy too hard.

As for the abortion argument: I guess that counselling makes an
awful lot of sense. Why would anybody want a third-trimester
abortion, anyway? The mother must be in extreme distress (sudden loss
of support network etc.) In order to support and comfort her
properly, however, I'd go for one-on-one counselling sessions.

Of course, ideally, the mother would give birth and
give the child up for adoption, but that's also my personal pro-baby bias.

On a related note: in Germany, it's now legal for mothers who don't
want their baby to give birth anonymously in a hospital. They will receive
counselling after the birth, but if they don't wish, their child will have
no way of tracing them. Talk about a pre-programmed identity crisis.

This comes hot on the heels of talk about requiring sperm donors
to reveal their identity.

(P.S.: I ticked "against abortion" on that test myself, but I believe in
trying to understand the other side's point of view!)

Wow, 7th month already! Please, do take time to rest, even if it is an hour or two. You and Jumper are too important. *hugs*

That quiz irritates me. I don't consider myself a far-left liberal, and the questions are definitely phrased so you *know* which ones are the Far Left/Right ones, but I kept finding myself coming down just on the side of the Far questions rather than the regular liberal ones.

Of course, it doesn't work at *all* for the UK, because our left is socialist rather than liberal. ^_^

Take care of yourself and Jumper Heidi.

He needs to 'cook' a lil while longer :)

(No doubt the little bugger will taunt you later on by turning up 14 days later than planned....they do that don't they?)

7th month? *passes out*

Yes - I know how to read and respond to lj via email. it is a snap. you have to set up your lj so that it notifies you via email and then when you open the messages - there is a box to respond and post.

Let me know what you need. Glad you are seeing the doctor - and yes - by all means TAKE IT EASY!

So sorry you felt so badly. :: kicks self for not knowing this before I talked to you :: So glad you're OK.

Don't worry about the abortion question. I tripped all of them, and I'm apparently a far left liberal who needs to remember that society needs to have a few norms. But if they'd put just one question about taxes on there, I would have balanced out as normal, I tell you.

Please do take care of yourself.

BTW - I got Liberal for my quiz result too. I couldn't choose one of the abortion ones because none of them really reflected my beliefs, so I had to choose the no answer option.
