A USA Today-CNN-Gallup poll indicated that only 49 percent of those polled agree that Bush White House policies "will move the country in the right direction," down precipitously from 73 percent a year ago. Back then, 19 percent said Bush's policies were taking the country in the wrong direction; that number is 43 percent today.

Amen, amen

Finally. It's about damn time.

He's still really frightening, but maybe that mass hypnotization is wearing off.

It had to be drugs in the water or something, that had anybody thinking he was going in the right direction - ever.

To judge from the alacrity with which everyone leapt to their feet when Bush hit the line about subsidized prescriptions, I'm beginning to suspect that the whole Congress is on drugs. (http://slate.msn.com/id/2077594/entry/2077820/)

Actually, your numbers are old. Just after the State of the Union speech, new numbers from Gallup were released:

Seventy-one percent say the policies being proposed by Bush would move the country in the right direction, while 20% say the wrong direction. Last year the comparable numbers were 91% vs. 7% respectively. Still, the results last night represent an improvement over this same group's responses in a poll conducted in the days just prior to the speech, when 52% said the right direction and 40% said the wrong direction. (Emphasis mine.)

Here is the whole article: http://www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr030129.asp

However, the pre-speech numbers probably speak more to how the public actually feels about the President. Unless he completely botched the speech, he was bound to have a post-speech bounce. If he continues in the same way he was before, his numbers will probably level off again. That being said I wish I could see the cross-tabs for both the polls to see how the numbers on specific issues are, but it's hard to find those anymore without paying a lot extra.

Jessica(who knows way too much about polling)

Perhaps. Sounds like you know a lot more about polling than I do. I guess we'll just have to wait a few days to see what the numbers do.

Probably be more like a couple of weeks before things shake out, unless something big happens which then that would effect the numbers and we probably wouldn't ever know.
