fuck. we lost. winning bid was pushing $40,000 - and we raised $24,000 - which is damned impressive, but wasn't enough. But now, over $50,000 will go to charity, between the winning bid and our donation.

: waves fandom flag

Cheer up Heidi :)

Hey, maybe JKR or some rich philanthropist bought it and is planning to donate it to TLC.

*clings to desperate hope*

*hugs* You made a damn good effort, and you should be proud of that. Your work for this fandom continues to amaze me, and I appreciate you. I just thought you should know. Not winning it is disappointing, but look what happened when we all came together? We all have reason to be proud.

It sucks that we didn't win it, but the money is going to an amazing cause, and that is a super consolation.

Thanks so much for all of the work you put into this, Heidi. We couldn't have done it without you.

Schnoogles,
Elia

*Big hugs* We tried, and we did an amazing thing. I didn't really want to know what's on the card, anyway, but am sad for those who really wanted to find out. I'm just glad we all helped, or will help, some kids that are really in need. Thanks for doing this and motivating the fandom that way. With out you guys at TLC we never would've tried, and that would've been a loss.

What [livejournal.com profile] eliasheldon said.

What goes around, comes around. I have a gut feeling that the fandom is going to get at least $24,000 of good out of this - maybe not straight away, but eventually. As you point out, $24,000 is very impressive indeed - a sum of money to really make a charity (and a JKR) sit up and take notice. It's more than I was expecting could be made. However, I wonder how much it really would have taken to win the card; we know for certain the figure is at least GBP 24,000 and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the winning bidder, whoever he or she may be, would have been prepared to go a lot higher than this. (Think back to the charity ball JKR held about the time of the CoS premiere - hoping to raise GBP 100K for MS Scotland, she raised GBP 275K. Rich people spend lots.) Maybe Newsround will have some more information in about half an hour's time. (By the way, my TV-to-video card is broken, otherwise I would record Newsround for TLC - though the show always goes up on the web anyhow.)

We did good.

Well done, Heidi, a truly impressive effort. The question now is whether the HP fan exists who can resist boasting to the world about what they've got before it wastes, especially after forking out $38,000

*Wah!*

Still, I think that the fandom...hell...EVERYONE involved made an unprecedented effort. Money raised for charity is always a good thing.

Perhaps our efforts in this direction will be rewarded.

Just jumping on the "thanks" bandwagon, Heidi.

The whole of the fandom-- active and lurking-- appreciates that you and the rest of TLC proved what we we are capable of. Nothing but gratitude for you, and Melissa, and everyone who helped.

Grief! Will we ever know who won, or is that Top Secret? I'm hugely impressed though with everything you've all done for this; in such a short time it's more than I would have ever guessed or thought could be possible.

In the end though, I guess it really is about the charity, isn't it? It's a gigantic positive step for the fandom that you're going to donate that much money even without getting anything physical in return-- it speaks worlds about the character of the fandom, especially all you super-influential people. We're very, VERY lucky to have you.

I came running back from my office holiday party luncheon to see how it went....and almost cried when I saw that we lost.

BUT...you know......I'm so damn proud of all of us!!! We raised a fantastic amount of money! AND IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME! We rock! And you folk at TLC are to be hugged, patted on the back and taken out for the best meal of your lives for all the effort and work you did for the cause.

Let's hope someone heard about TLC's effort and said "They're working so hard....I'll buy the card for more than they've got and then donate it to them as a "Good Deed" award."

Oh well.

*off to take down signs around the office and lobby about auction and do a little bit of pouting*

I'm amazed at how much money you guys managed to raise it such a short time. Card or no card, we've done a lot of good. This is the sort of thing that restores my faith in fandom.
