Dec. 10th, 2002 10:24 pmI just read on someone's Blog that as her fic is not ademantly Ron/Hermione, she can archive it on FictionAlley.
Do people honestly think that FictionAlley doesn't host fics that are Ron/Hermione?
If so, why do you think that way?
Does the fact that such a conclusion it totally inaccurate affect your thought process at all?

Date: 2002-12-10 11:30 pm (UTC)But I think it comes from teh attitude that some people have on FA: the one of "ooh, R/H 'shippers, evil". You knwo, the one that thinks all SugarQuillers are snooty and can lead to inter-site flame wars. Now, I know thsoe people exist in all 'ships. But I think because FA is bigger, it has more of them, although they may be in the same proportions, and peopel tend to notice the people who cause trouble. Therefore, I think FA has a reputation for hating SQ and therefore, Ron/Hermione.
Which, from a site policy and many of the members' perspective, is rubbish. After all, this SQ Forum Ghost is an autumn Niffler.
:-)
Yours in fanfiction,
JK

Date: 2002-12-11 04:13 am (UTC)It actually says that right on the front page - fanfic of all shapes, sizes and SHIPs - but if you missed it, others might/must be as well - so perhaps we should add it onto the headers, at least, for the Park pages? Not sure if we can without mucking up the "name" of the park but it's worth a try...

Which makes no sense for a few reasons:
1. One of the first fics we asked to host on FA was After the End. They said no. They said they didn't want to archive any of their fics on FA at that point, and we've asked since and they're still not interested.
2. One of the first people we asked to host her fics on the nonschnoogle houses is a Professor at Sugarquill - she said yes (although we still don't have all her stuff and would love to).
3. I regularly ask R/H shippers to submit fics to FA - many have done so, but others have given various explanations for why they won't - sometimes they're writing in other fanfic authors' universes and the underlying story isn't hosted on FA.
4. We have not only R/H shippers among the nifflers - we have them on the mod squad! A number of them! More R/H than H/H these days, I think (if you take H/H to mean Harry/Hermione, because if you add on Simon's Harry/Hedwig shipping, the numbers are actually equal).
But besides that - we have fifteen thousand registered users on FA. And yes, there is the Deathmarch thread, which was started by users who wanted to debate, and who are not permitted to do so on the SCUSA threads, where R/H supporters (including those who discuss what they plan to post over on the GoodShip LJ and on at least one thread on Sugarquill (we'll leave the violation of the copyright section of FA's ToU for another day)) and H/H supporters debate - but nobody is forced to play there. In fact, nobody is forced to read it - it's tucked away and only those who are interested in seeking it out can really find it in the first place. We have dozens of other threads which are controversial - including whether disliking slash is homophobic, and whether the movie is canon, and the amount of debate that goes on in the Who Should Be Cast As Sirius and Remus threads is just mind boggling, as are some of the discussions in the writers' corner thread about things like original characters.
I would love to have more fics of every ship - I wish that more people treated FA as what it
iswas designed to be - a massive archive of everything that is grammatically correct in the Harry Potter fandom.(no subject)
Date: 2002-12-11 06:45 am (UTC)If there's a "R/H belongs on SQ" stigma, I think it comes more from the fact that new fandom members see the Weasley-devoted SQ and assume that's where the R/H is supposed to go. For me, that faulty assumption had nothing to do with FA.

Date: 2002-12-11 07:22 am (UTC)I mean, Taradiane, what would Lily/James be to you? What about Percy/Oliver? Sirius/Remus? Mainstream, or no? I mean, I know SQ professors who ship Sirius/Remus and I regularly see threads there praising it (deservedly so :) ) but is it truly mainstream?
And Tinderblast, what is Snape/Harry? Mainstream yet, or no? Clearly, Oliver/Riddle would be not mainstream under anyone's definition, but what about Sirius/James? FA has a thread for the Remus/Draco ship, but most of the fics for that seem to involve Draco trying to get better marks in class.....

Date: 2002-12-11 07:29 am (UTC)*for some reason that term is on my mind today, possibly because I just read an article about Disneyana (Disney merchandise and adulation) and was pondering the fact that while Weasleyana sounds good, Potterana sounds pathetic and Malfoyana just gets very confusing in deciding which syllable to put the emphasis on.

Gah! Apart from the fact that she's only one of pushing 100 staffers...
She has *nothing to do with the fic acceptance process*! Nothing at all.

Date: 2002-12-11 08:31 am (UTC)While Malfoyana and Potterana (which, well, reminds me of Pollyanna too much to ignore) aren't quite a fitting set of terms as Weasleyana, there are worse. Bustrodana requires that you drop an 'e' and reads as "odd" instead of "ode." Ravenclawana has an abrupt shift from "aw" to "aa".

Date: 2002-12-11 12:08 pm (UTC)Since when did I represent FA?
*amused*
Also, fics are varyingly famous depending on your perspective. After the End is a famous fic in its own quarters.

Date: 2002-12-11 05:30 pm (UTC)Of course, I know better now. But when you aren't really exposed that much to the fandom, it's an easy mistake to make.
