Brilliant and sentiment-inducing article about cassette tapes, especially the Mix Tape, in today's Washington Post.

And somewhere, I have the mix tape my boyfriend made for me back in 1991, which has Dire Straits' Romeo & Juliet and Bryan Adams' song from Robin Hood on it. And I wonder if my first boyfriend has the stupid one I made for him, which had songs from Fairground Attraction, Collage and Squeeze on it...

I need to sort through all of mine. Somewhere in my house, there's a tape with General Hospi-TALE on it. You know, the one that mentions Dr Noah Drake. Rick Springfield. Woo.

C30, C60, C90, Go!

Off the radio, I get a constant flow

Hit it! Pause it! Record it and play

Or turn it on, rewind and rub it away!

Bow Wow Wow

Sometimes I still spend nights mix-taping things. I've got a lot of mix-tapes. A summer tape, a cuddle tape, a comfort tape, a cheer-up tape... Mix-tapes rule. And "(Everything I do) I do it for you" rules, too. One of the few songs that I can play perfectly on the piano. *melts to puddle*

Erm... actually, I'll ask my listeners. If I don't have them, one of them will.

*hugs her mix tapes to her*

I still use my old tapes on a fairly regular basis. Will got me a tape deck/CD player for my car, so I can use both. I worry about the ones that aren't really replaceable, but I'll enjoy them as long as I can. May try to transfer to CD. The sound quality won't improve that way, but they'll last better.

Wow, that article made me feel very old and nostalgic....

Ah.... the memories...

I am right now looking at my "Freshman Mix" tape from college that has songs like "Bust a Move", "Pump Up the Jam", "Angel Eyes", "The End of the World as We Know It", and many, many more.

Of course, there's my "Guido Hits" tape from my friend's ex-boyfriend that she gave me too. So many cheesy 80's tunes that I just can't get enough of.

I've actually had a few of my mix tapes made into CD's.

Hey--I remember the mix tape! I made the last of mine in college, during the second half of the 90s. We were too poor for CD burners!

But the heyday of mix tapes for me was the late 80s and esp the early 1990s. Only for me, it was hip-hop that was the focus of these recordings. :)
