Where I've Been

I think some of you expected me to be AFK today so I could go to Disney World.

Nup.

This morning, while she was packing in advance of us picking her up for the trip, my grandmother fell and broke her hip. She's 81 and has always seemed incredibly unbreakable - I still pretty much much feel that way, given that she crawled about 15 feet to a phone and called for help from her cousin who lives in the area, then called my mum.

So she's in for surgery at some point tomorrow, we're not going to Disney World (and Harry is quite upset about it) but we're going in a month, so it's going to be too terrible for him. He doesn't really understand, of course, but he knows that Ba is sick and at the doctor's and that he'll see her in two weeks.

I'm sure she'll be fine - it's just made for a very long day.

In other news, FA is commemorating Banned Books Week with a fanfic challenge - write a crossover between the HP universe and any of the books on the Top 100 Banned Books list. And on that page you can see the new process for posting a fic in response to any of our challenges.

Also, Ali's done a wonderful job with the ratings guide, which I expect will go live in about 2 - 3 days. We're going to make it public domain, so any fanfic site in the world can use it on their site, if they want to. Credit will be requested but not required.

And I've gone and joined ali_granger's new Yahoogroup at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/potter_parents/ - looking forward to seeing how it grows up!

Last night was the first chat for those considering attending hp_orlando/Nimbus - 2003 - it went well in many ways, but we do need a moderated chatroom where we can also log the chats. Any thoughts, in addition to those helpful suggestions posted here?

And I'm sure Harry will survive, although a month does seem like forever at that age - and even sometimes at ours! :)
