Three Cheers for the Fandom!
Aug. 12th, 2002 09:16 amAnd four cheers for
nascosi! She's done more for the fandom this weekend than I think anyone could've predicted when she first made the challenge earlier this week.
I love threads like this. I love our new board on FA. I wish every fanfic site in the fandom would join in on this monthly project - it's a terrific way to share recommendations and perhaps learn that you're not as squicked by something as you thought you were. Or at least, you learn whether you really don't like something because of its merits or lack thereof, and not becuase of prejudgement (I am loathe to use the word prejudice, but I can't think of a good substitute now...).
Our of the four fics I read this weekend (and I still need to read one of
nostrademons' fics) - one was just poorly written (Hermione/Lucius) and the writer knew it - one was cleverly created and well written and though I won't add it to my all time favorites list, I'll recommend it if anyone ever asks for a Snape/Dumbledore fic - one I'll keep reading (and I'm having a great correspondence with the author about it) - and one was so far from being my cup of tea, partially because of the superbly bad grammar where there shouldn't be bad grammar. And that's all I'll say about that.
I miss the days, two years ago, when I had the time to read everything with an interesting summary - I need to spend a few days getting back to that and just putting things on my palm pilot and reading in unexpected moments.
Now, that, for me, is the Unexpected Challenge.
See y'all next month!
(ps - anyone want to make a banner or two?)

I do have a horrible twitch though.

Erin's Unexpected Task Banner
You don't have to use it if you don't want to (but if you did, that's be great), and if you want me to make more, perhaps with a different catchphrase, just email me.
I'm really glad this task was thought of, as well. I've read a lot of stuff I normally wouldn't, and enjoyed some of it as well (although Harry/Flobberworm was a bit much)

I made two, one says "the unexpected task" on it, the other doesn't.

If you need anything else, feel free to tell me, I love making graphics. ;)

Date: 2002-08-12 05:23 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed the challenge. The fact that I'm sick and tired prevented me reading everything I wanted to, but I read some stuff for my Niffler submisson that fitted "outside my horizons". I didn't enjoy everything I read, but it was great, as you say, for realising why I don't like certain stuff, and also that I can suspend my disbelief in other ships for a while!
Congratulations to the fandom!
Yours in fanfiction,
JK
