What I did this weekend:
Jun. 3rd, 2002 12:58 pm1. Finally saw . I have to admit, the plot is fine. No, really - it is. It moves us from the end of Movie 1 to the begining of Episode IV in a really sensible way, and the resonance, with Yoda commanding stormtroopers and the way Anakin stands and moves around what will later be Luke's workroom - they're nicely prepared and not badly done.
The dialogue, otoh... if the dialogue had been a bear trap, I would've chewed off my own arm. And the worst part is, all the frolicking on Naboo was utterly unnecessary. It would've worked just as well if they hadn;t had ANY of those scenes and made the same kind of "progression" in their relationship during the Gladiator and battle scenes. Why did they have to "fall in love" in this silly sappy way, instead of on the battlefields, as Leia and Han did? It would've had more resonance that way. While his guppiness is completely acceptable as lovelorn-lusting-after-her-for-ten-years!kid, hers makes no sense, but it would've *after* the fight scenes. Or at least, it would have made more sense.
And how the heck is Lars 16? Did I miss the bit where he went into an aging accelerator?
2. Got Douglas Adams' Salmon of Doubt, which I will read when I'm traveling next week. Meh, the sadness that this is the last book of his that we will get...
3. Went swimming. A lot. And finished another scene from SoC. 6 down... who knows how many to go..

Date: 2002-06-03 11:02 am (UTC)Loved the little "Sound of Music" moment with Amidala, too.
But. Did pick up some Obi-Wan/Anakin slash.
Want a good movie? Go see "Spiderman". It's *great*.

Date: 2002-06-03 12:08 pm (UTC)Personally I thought Lucas should have done this as a 4 movie story arc not 3. He needed to establish Anakin as a teenager and the relationship with Obi-Wan and Palpatine before moving on to Padme.
uhhhhh

Date: 2002-06-03 09:40 pm (UTC)Amen, sistah. It fell so terribly flat, and was so convoluted... I wondered how the poor actors managed to get around some of those sentences. "I am haunted by the kiss you never should have given me." Bleargh.
