Some things come, some things go

It's my tenth year chairing the Scholastic Book Fair at my kids' preschool (although I wasn't actually on-site last year as it was the same week my gall bladder was removed) and it's the first year that we have no Harry Potter books on the shelves.

Not even paperbacks of Sorcerer's Stone. We have lots of Percy Jackson, and The 39 Clues, and a bunch of the Sunshine State award-winner books for fifth through seventh graders, but no Harry Potter.

I miss it - I'm not sure why there aren't any. If they were here - the first two, at least - the third and fourth graders who are finally aging up to be able to read it on their own would buy at least a few. I've already asked Scholastic why they weren't here, but I haven't heard back yet.

The kids at the book fair are the same kids that are going to get to compete to go with their class to the grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter this spring. Those of you who are teachers - are any of you going to try and do it?

All you need to do is complete a 3-minute video featuring your class and teacher answering the question “Why is my class extraordinary?”

Weird that there's no HP. :-S

At lunch last week, one of my colleagues asked me, "Hey, have you heard that Disney is building a Harry Potter Theme Park in LA next to Disneyland?" Ah, Muggles....
