Thoughts about SPN 6.01 and 6.05

I love Sam, I absolutely do. And I can't even begin to predict what is going on this season but

"Live Free or Twi-hard" isn't the first time this season that Sam's stood by and watched Dean's reaction to a monster's poison - and possibly isn't the first time this season that Sam's refrained from preventing Dean being poisoned in the first place.

In 6.01 we don't know exactly how long this time Sam's been watching Dean, but he did know that Dean had been poisoned by the d'jinn, and had he wanted to prevent Dean being poisoned at all, he could have warned him before the d'jinn's attack in the first place. Technically, he wouldn't have had to even let Dean know he was alive - he could have asked Bobby to call Dean with a warning about d'jinn in the area so he could at least have been on guard.

But instead, he let Dean be poisoned by the d'jinn, just like this week, he didn't stop the vampire from infecting Dean.

I suspect that something is wrong regarding Sam's soul/essence, but please don't spoil me if you *know* more specifics than that, but please do share your theories-not-derived-from-spoilers-other-than-the-preview-for-6.06!

Re 6.04 - a small favor! Is anyone able to make me an icon of the boys in the second to last scene with an arrow pointing to the ruins that says Hogwarts? I would be extremely grateful!

I have no spoiler info and no real deep thoughts to contribute myself, but I did see this point brought up in a review posted on spn_heavymeta that I thought was really interesting:

Sam being remote and mysterious. Ok, maybe his betrayal of Dean took some people by surprise and this was a major event in the series. Or at least, that's certainly the message the writers want us to take from this occurrence. To which I have to say, it's hard for us to take this seriously when you (the writers) only choose to take it seriously when it suits you.

Case in point, the very aberrant occurrence in Children Are Our Future where Dean hits Sam with the previously deadly joy buzzer in an awfully chancy assumption that Jesse controls its activity and that Dean isn't, in fact, about to fry his brother. Just because Sam confronts him in a less than serious way afterward doesn't mitigate the fact that the Dean we know should never have taken a risk like that with so little at stake. At least here Sam has a better reason to send Dean "undercover" and he also had more reason to believe that Dean could be saved. Nor, I might add, could Sam have known in advance that Dean would be attacked and turned, and he did chase away the vamp when he thought Dean might be badly injured.

So yes, this is an interesting development but more because it looks like we're going to get some answers soon than because OMG, Sam let Dean get turned.

I can't believe that's Sam. I just can't. He's got to have at least a piece of Lucifer still in him. Or something. This goes well beyond "That's not right" though.

I have heroically resisted searching out spoilers for what's up with Sammy (and Grandpa 'Skinner')...so far. But as last week's Twihard episode seems to have put a puncture in at least one of my two theories I'm not so confident in them. Here they are anyway: 1. Timeshare over Sam's body between Sam & Lucifer, 2. Gramps has laid some heavy-duty mojo (be it spell or potion) on Sam for some reason (possibly in relation to what the Campbells are really doing). Theory 2 got the puncture. It seemed genuine to me that Gramps was puzzled by Sam's lack of memory. Gah! I wanna know the truth now!

I think I'm falling into the Lucifer!residue camp. And I agree -- there's something kinda sinister going on here. What got me was the smirky sort of smile that Sam gave when he saw Dean being turned by the vamp.
