So last night I went to Toloache with
laughingirl and
jlh and had amazing food and dessert and three margaritas and then the restaurant treated each of us to a shot of tequila so i didn't get home till after ten and missed Show airing live but was totally okay with that because I knew by the time I woke up i'd be able to get it from iTunes sans ads so
I really loved it. To me, it hung together as a stepping stone to bring the boys back together and do amazing things and save people and hunt things and save the world and maybe play a little golf (and I'm just giggling that I requested "unexpected sports including golf or ultimate frisbee" as an
spn_j2_xmas prompt!).
I got so weepy when Grampa Sam showed up even though i was spoiled for him being there, because it was just so wonderfully done (and I love that Show didn't spell out that there is a possibility that they were both back because of the same name). And I loved the golf clubs being Useful and I didn't feel like either of them was wrongly OOC- I had been so nervous about the one year gap but it really is working for me. I didn't get the feeling that Dean hadn't talked to Bobby at all, just no long conversations or visits.
And I didn't get the feeling that Dean was really uber-joyously-happy with his life with Lisa. They act "together" but not like they're besotted with each other. I love the montage showing the contrasts but his drinking makes it clear that he's not happily settled; he's staying to keep them safe, not because he loves Lisa more than he loves sam.
This set the stage really well for me, and I cant wait to watch the rest of the season. Pretty unspoiled- except for ep titles - from here on out!

Date: 2010-09-25 06:28 pm (UTC)I skipped a bunch of episodes in seasons 4 and 5 so I am wondering if that is why, but Dean just seemed super OOC. In the second to last episode of S5, he was not happy with the idea of settling down. I could see him doing it because Sam told him to, but the minute Sam came back, he would jump with joy and ditch the domestic life.
I also really did not want to see "one year later." I wanted to see what happened right after Sam stopped by the window and that light started flashing...
