Well, that was a damned plotty episode! And with lovely angst - as articulated by Alistair - and a
I'm glad that Dean now remembers what happened when he was dying back in IMTOD - I don't know if it will impact him considerably but it's a hole in his memory and world that is now filled. And his talk with her after about how he felt that year - yeah, we sorta knew it but for Show to go back and fill in the characterization was a lovely, consistency and continuity-filled thing to do. GO, SHOW!
On the bad side, Pamela dying was just... She was a bit of a deus ex machina, and I guess it's not necessary to the writers/Kripke to have a human one when there are angels who have homoerotic tension with the leads around. But she was a fantastic character and I hope they find a way to bring her back.
Interesting to have confirmation that reapers can take on different forms. And WIBBLE for Sam doing things with good intentions but that may not be enough.
What I loved and found fascinating was Castiel's statement that he recruited Dean and Sam. O RLY? So they (a) are a package deal and (b) the angels continue to have use for Sam (as per Uriel's statement that when he isn't useful he will be dust) even though he is strong enough now to pull Alisdair out of his meat-suit. But both of the boys were recruited/necessary to the angelic/divine plan.
Huh.
I was thinking about why the boys and Pamela didn't salt the room - perhaps so the boys could come and go without being barred - but they *should* have put Devil's Traps by the open windows and by the door as a just-in-case. Ghosts can go through the traps, right? Just not demons.
ETA! One more thought!
We're all pretty sure that when the boys were younger, John set them to fight each other - it's implied so strongly in their first scene together in the pilot. But here, with Cole, they can't bring themselves to do it - most likely because of how fucked up they both were by the fight over that siren. So swinging a punch at each other, even for "training", is now so much more of a fraught and un-contemplatable thing.
In other words, OH BOYS!

Date: 2009-03-13 02:42 am (UTC)I haven't seen the episode yet, but damn, I'm so tired of SPN sidelining women or killing them off for the sake of the m/m tension. I used to read spoilers for the enjoyment factor, now I'm doing it to know how to prepare myself.

Date: 2009-03-13 12:22 pm (UTC)I was sad about Pamela. It seemed so gratuitous to have her killed off. I *did* enjoy the smiting of Alastair, however. That was some quality smiting!
I also sporfled at the whole "Get out of me, Dean"/"You're such a prude." exchange. They DO love baiting the fangirls!
In closing: ONE WEEK, BB!
