heidi: (Obama/Biden will SPARKLE!)

[Poll #1291920]

Gacked from DailyKos, Things to listen for in the near-future:

"I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States..."

"In the news today, President Obama called on Americans to..."

"The Obama administration says it's tackling the issue aggressively..."

"Republicans condemned/accused/attacked President Obama today..."

"The House and Senate have passed, and President Obama signed, sweeping legislation..."

"The first question of this and all future press conferences will go to Helen Thomas. Go ahead, Helen." "Thank you, Mr. President..."

"President Obama's cabinet picks have been hailed as smart, shrewd, and diverse..."

"For the first time in years, polling shows that Americans feel like the country is on the right track again..."

"President Obama, with the backing of General Petraeus and the Iraqi government, announced significant troop reductions this week..."

"Once again, the Republican effort to mount a filibuster failed miserably..."

"After two weeks on the job, Republicans called for Obama's impeachment today, and were literally laughed out of the chamber..."

"OPEC panics as Obama White House announces massive alternative energy push..."

"You're watching Alaska Cable Access Channel 2. Welcome to Hockey Talk with your host, Sarah Palin..."

And from 236.com:
We have no idea what James Buchanan might have written Abraham Lincoln the night of the 1860 election...but for sheer self-absorbed point missing it would be hard to top this from George W. Bush:
I promise to make this a smooth transition. You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations, and go enjoy yourself.

We've had eight years of someone enjoying himself and his life journey at the expense of the country. Now, mercifully, this country may finally have a President.

Someone shouted it at the staging location where we'd been working like our lives depending on it all day long!

When he went to bed (2am GMT+1) Lars told me Obama was in the lead. When I woke up 5 hours later I checked dr.dk (Danish news site) as the first thing - the headlines were impossible to miss.

It was a little bit of everything -- I was watching news sites and refreshing my flist while watching TV with my roommate. But what struck me the most were all the shouts and car honking that erupted in the streets. There was so much excitement. I'm going to remember this for a long time to come.

I was watching Jon when he announced it, and then I turned it over to check just about every major news station before settling on CNN and the shots of the celebrating crowds. And while all that was going on I could hear my neighbors screaming Obama had won and celebrating. It was awesome. :D

We were at a bar showing MSNBC--which was hilarious, because when my friends and I arrived, the bar seemed to be pulling for McCain mostly. (We fixed that!)

They're all good, but the Helen Thomas one cracked me up!

And I heard it from Jon, but for a long moment, Avi and I thought it was a joke ::laughs::. He switched over to CNN and then I started babbling with joy. (Yes, I mean babbling, not bubbling. I mean, I was bubbling too, but there was more babbling.)

I was at [livejournal.com profile] chite's place with a bunch of (new, hopefully) friends. We'd tried MSNBC for a bit but spent most of the night glued to CNN. They called VA just a few minutes before 11pm -- at that point PA and OH, I think, were considered in the bag, and FL looked good but not called yet. Once CNN called VA for Obama, we were pretty sure that was it. When we hit 11pm EST (8pm PST), and all three West Coast states were called for Obama, we all started screaming. [livejournal.com profile] chite's husband pulled out the champagne; one of them started to apologize that they couldn't guarantee the quality of it, and we told them we didn't care -- given the occasion, it would still be sweet. (And it was rather tasty, the 3-4 sips I took before I had to drive home. *whistles* [livejournal.com profile] lite has terrible night vision, and would have been worse off than me even completely sober.)

Love the icon! What I need is a "Proud Liberal" type icon for general political use.

I was feverishly refreshing MSNBC.com, but I got the spinning beach ball of doom at the crucial moment! Then I heard shrieking and fire crackers being set off across the street, so I phoned my Mom and was literally, "OMG TELL ME WHAT JUST HAPPENED I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT I NEED THE WORDS."

We were going back and forth between comedy central and MSNBC all night, and I'm pretty sure we were on MSNBC when the announcement hit.

I am so happy about the Presidential race.

You mean, Jon Stewart, right? In the poll? Because we were flipping between Comedy Central and CNN, and we caught it on Comedy Central first.

Non-Fox, non-CNN TV, but at the exact same moment FFXI went crazy with the news so I was reading it there as well as hearing it on TV. :D
