John Barrowman says Hi!

ETA John and Naoko sing from Miss Saigon

Having amazing time. With [livejournal.com profile] cathybites right now getting gorgeous art. Just saw the DW/TW panels with a longer preview of the Xmas ep and omgwow!

Finally getting a lttle less overwhelmed. Heard about fanlib, which was interesting, no?

So coming back next year after [livejournal.com profile] azkatraz!

A semi-transcript of the DW and TW panel
"We're making nostalgia for the future!"

Stephan Moffat said that it "would be nice" to have neil gaiman write
a script for DW.
It was exciting and fun to get the job of show-runner
Stephen has started writing the first episode of Season Five.
Barrowman's reaction to finding out about the Face of Boe - he
screamed when he got to that page.
Writing River Song was tremendous good fun. We know the Doctor will
see her again but he may just sneak out of the TARDIS late one night
with some champagne and a corsage and possiboly his toothbrush.
He also recommends not dropping handcuffs on the floor on the first date.
Stephen whispered to Julie on the stage whether RIver SOng was the
Doctor's wife but neither of them will tell us!
SOmeone asked Stephen if he had a creepy childhood but he said it was
uneventful and that is why he writes "nonsense".
Someone asked if we will see more of ROse and the other-ten and he
won't tell us, but he said, "You have to give the Doctor credit for
dumping a slightly clingy girlfiriend." Putting her in another
dimension didn't work...
There's been no creative differences in the overall scripts, just
occasionally in how to realise things and "how you produce that work".
He gave an anecdote about a time there was a small disagreement. At
the end of Forrest of the Dead Stephen wanted Donna's two children in
the last scene, but once it was filmed, he didn't like the way it
worked. Julie initially didn't want the children in there, but now she
likes it.
"You kind of always want to do everything, in a way," Julie said. But
the limits in budget and schedule makes you beter and gives you
parameters.
When asked if they would do a crossover with Billie's Secret Diary of
a Call Girl, Julie said that such a show is Torchwood - and Stephen
said people could just imaginew that Billie's character is Rose.
He also said - SPOILER! - that River Song has met Ten before - and
also, another version of the Doctor.
Any chance for a prior Doctor coming back? "You've got to be sure that
you have a reason to tell that story."
"All you really need is the two of them chatting."
"The time lords are gone so the rules are off. He'll run forever."
The reason the Doctor's been getting younger is "running". "As you get
older you become steadily more immature. When you're older you want to
have people think you're a happy go lucky chap." Julie says the
reason is "running".
Stephen has an easy time keeping continuity because he's memorized
everything in the whole history of DW - but since the Doctor can
travel through time there can't be any continuity errors; 'He changed
time!"
"We're making nostalgia for the future!"
If parents are concerned that now that he's going to be doing the show
it's going to be scary... it is!
Eight did happen in the current show continuity.
Stephen was the reason why Jenny didn't stay dead at the end of The
Doctor's Daughter. But it says something for his vision of Doctor Who
that "babes don't die."
We got a longer trailer for the Xmas episode, which is set in the
1880s and includes Cybermen, yay!

TW:
We are sitting right next to John and his family
Naoko's been out here for a while - in LA for a few weeks - and Gareth
just came to town yesterday
JOhn says that TOrchwood isn't so much sexed up as it reflects the
real world, and TOrchwood just kind of covers that. Jack doesn't
really do anything (sexually) - but Gareth disagrees with that
especially regarding Episode 11. In filming they were concerned about
what "showed" ("backfat")
Naoko talks about TOsh - she loves her and has a lot in common with
her and is a bit of a geek -[ but that's ok because geeks rule the
world. She's learning about herself and coming out of her shell and
becoming more aware of herself, Naoko really loves. John says they
both go off on tangents
Gareth talks about Ianto: he likes hthe mystery about him, how you
haven';t seen his flat or anything about his background, and he gets
to shag the leading man and that's good.
John loves Jack's myseriousness and how he's changed from being not a
very likeable person and how Jack became more human, and in his love
for humanity he does things like make the choice for the death of one
person to save thousands. He loves how iconic he's become and how he's
a hero.
THEY ARE VERY RIBALD. I cannot put all the jokes into a family website!!!
John got emptional on stage now in talking about TOsh's death scene
and how they couldn't rehearse it because of the emotional factors.
Audience did a major call out for bringing TOsh back
People asked about Mickey and Martha coming to torchwood and Julie
wouldn't say.
TW season 3 signed to be on BBC America as of this morning.
For season 3, there's going to be a hige story told across give
episodes - pushing the torchwood team into new territory.
John says that there are things in the pipeline for other non-DW projects
John talked about discovering Jack was the face of boe - talking as a
fan, not as JOhn the Actor - as a fan of the genre, it changed the
whole dynamic with the relatoinship between Jack and the Doctor -
because the doctor has been going to him for advice.
Naoko said Fragments was one of her favourite episodes because people
will do anything to save a family member, and it was "so Tosh".
Gareth thinks that Ianto's fancying of Jack was a bit of a surprise to himself.
Julie thinks that overall, you get a sci fi show that's right for a
particular time in history - Torchwood is about hope and a team of
people that would die for each other, and there is ultimate love for
each other.
Julie says the show is more about loss and love and how to fancy
people and not as much about sex. There's heaps of innuendo, but
that's life.
John would love to be in an American spin-off of Torchwood. Naoko
thinks that she and Burn had a *Joannie Loves CHachee* thing going.
John found filming the burial scene in the last ep of TW freaky
because he's claustrophobic - he believes that Jack put himself into a
trance and never came out of it. During the filming - the crew
chucked dirt on him - but it was freshly bagged dirt!
They talked about pranks - there are some on the upcoming DVD set.
"It's amazing what you get used to," Naoko said.
S3 of TW will air after the next eps of DW. HUH!
In S3 "a lot of dynamics will change".
Their reactions to their first time seeing the TW Hub - John spoke
about seeing it during construction, and said it was like the first
time he walked into the TARDIS set - just a *sigh*
John is very intrigued about how Jack becomes the Face of Boe
John and Naoko did a little duet from Miss Saigon and it was gorgeous!

*Flail*

I wish I could be there. I'm actively working out how to go. I'm wondering if my equally nerdy fiance would be willing to skimp some wedding so we can stick about 300.00 toward getting him and me to the comic con *LOL*

OH and please tell Glockgal and Cathybites hello from me ^^
