Suitcase of Memories
Jun. 15th, 2008 04:35 pm[Poll #1205311]
Continuing with the 80s theme, this weekend I posted a Doctor Who vid set to YAZ's Nobody's Diary, focusing on the recent DW two-parter (so obviously, spoilers for 4.08 and 4.09).
And I watched DW 4.10 overnight and I didn't even know until it began that it was by RTD. It was frightening, suspenseful and thought provoking in terms of the undercurrent of meta about the Doctor's charisma, influence, brains and abilities, and I thought that was fascinating. I have absolutely no idea what to expect from the next two episodes but I am hoping for some utter awesome-ness.
Sometimes, memes result in my skipping them once they've been around for two or three days, but I've been finding the Getting To Know You memes fascinating, because no matter how well I know some of you, there's at least one or two facts or quirks in your posts that I didn't know - and since so many of you (especially from the SPN fandom) are relatively new to my flist, I'm learning a lot from those posts.
1. First Name: Heidi. Yes, I am named after the book. Men of a certain age think I am named after the TV movie that interrupted a Very Important Football Game back in the late 60s; this was one of the first things my future father in law said to me when we met.
2. Age: 37. But I got carded at the Boardwalk at Disney last week. It was fantastic.
3. Location: Miami, Florida. Born here, raised here, fled for ten years, and came back just over ten years ago when we were Ready For Kids.
3a. Fandom: In terms of online activity, I started in the Crowded House fandom back in 1993 or 1994, then joined this Dartmouth mailing list for the tv show Friends back in the fall of 1994 - but I didn't get very active in another online fandom until the day before Goblet of Fire came out in the summer of 2000 - I joined Harry Potter for Grownups that day (: waves to
I vid. I write a bit, but I vid a lot more than I do anything else creatively fannish these days.
4. Occupation: Attorney - I do intellectual property with a focus on trademarks and copyrights, as well as privacy policies, terms of use, Gramm Leach Bliley and occasional HIPPA projects.
5. Partner?: Husband of nearly 12 years - Aaron
6. Kids: Three. Oldest Boy is nearly nine, Second Boy just turned five, and Little Girl is three-going-on-fifteen. I sometimes think they are Wacko, Jacko and Dot from the Animaniacs.
7. Brothers/Sisters: One sister - almost three years younger than me. She lives nearby which is lovely as our daughters are only seven weeks apart. She had a major tragedy almost two years ago when her husband died suddenly (their daughter was 14 months old) but has since remarried to her best friend from junior high school - they have a baby who is just completely yummy.
8. Pets: None. Kids and travel make it too complicated.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
a) Family! Lots of managing and organizing and feeding and homework-helping and fun-playing. But I wouldn't trade it for the world.
b) Travel! Over the course of the next two months, I'm going to Atlanta (possibly twice, if I make it to Dragon*Con), Dallas (for Portus), San Diego (for Comic Con), Los Angeles, Naples (Florida), Boston and Bangor (Maine). And probably back to Orlando for a day or two, too. Pack, travel, do stuff, travel, unpack, do laundry, repeat. But it's fun, and Have ipod, Will Travel, so it's worth it.
c) Work. I have to choose a new trademark docketing database and I'm still undecided after three months of looking at different systems. I need to choose before I go away in two weeks, or I never will make up my mind.
10. School: Public from 2nd through ninth, private for the last three years. Then I went to University of Pennsylvania for undergrad (history & communications majors, with minors in English and AmCiv), then American University's Washington College of Law for law school. And I still miss DC a lot.
11. Parents: 62 and 67 and still very busy - my dad still works and my mom does a lot of Organization-y projects. They travel a lot.
12. Who are some of your closest friends? IRL, Best Friend from College Noreen, and various flisties - some of whom I've known for eight years this month and others who I've barely known a year - or less.

Date: 2008-06-15 09:08 pm (UTC)I completely need your no-spoiler patience. Ever since I saw the trailer for Turn Left at the end of the ep I have been searching for spoilers for the last three eps--HELP!! I am an instant gratification girl--it doesn't ruin the ep for me to know things, but it does drive me crazy that I do it.

Date: 2008-06-15 09:10 pm (UTC)I was going to say "Some Kind Of Wonderful", but I don't think Eric Stoltz was ever nominated for an Oscar or an Emmy, though I think he was nominated for something for Mask.
"Girls Just Want To Have Fun" is so completely a guilty pleasure movie! Shannen Doherty's in that one, too!
And my favorite 80's teen flick with Robert Downey, Jr is probably "Weird Science." (And Bill Paxton as Chet, the brother! Hee!

Date: 2008-06-16 01:44 am (UTC)I could ramble about Jonathan Silverman also being in Girls Just Wanna... and how he took over various Matthew Broderick roles once Matt started aging out (and marrying Sarah) but it would go onto a long tangent about Jennifer Grey portraying his sister, and then dating him, and I don't have the brainpower for it now.
RDJ, though, has probably been in as many, if not more, projects with Random People that he'd be a good alternative to Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
(I love your icon, btw.)
