Oh, Show, you are so....
May. 8th, 2008 10:04 pmFirst? No bloody way is Bela only 24. 26 I would buy, because stress ages you, or something. But not 24.
: handwaves
Second? LOVE the tie-in between the graphic novel and Show. In other words, if you didn't read the comic, there were aspects of the storyline that you didn't have the opportunity to fully appreciate. So I highly recommend buying the collected issues (now with Newly Corrected Impala Canon!) so you can get John's backstory with Dr Benton.
2b. I kind of like how they gave Benton the option to set himself on fire and end his eternal suffering in the grave, maybe. But is an eternity in that box better or worse than an eternity in hell? (Heroes spoiler: For that question, we go to Adam Monroe, under the set of Heroes. [Adam: *screams*] Alright, thank you Adam!)
Third? Oh, the emo pain! When the boys separated! And had their fight! I worried they wouldn't find each other in this episode!
3b. Is Dean on the ten-burgers-a-day diet? Because he's showing emo pain over burgers, hee! And I wish he'd been able to tackle a real zombie infestation; he clearly wanted to!
Fourth? Sammy with his rental cars and their alarms! : clings to normal
(I kinda love how they showed the rental car logo this time.)
Fifth? Has Sammy told Dean about the six months he spent without him in Mystery Spot? Because Dean is a bit freaked out by Sam's willingness to do anything to keep Dean alive - including the science from Benton's book, and even keeping Benton alive to get answers & help from him in the Immortality Quest. But if it can be tied to Sam's knowledge of life with Dean dead, with Dean in hell, then it's more explicable even if it's still a little irrational.
Sixth? There is no six; six has been dragged away by hellhounds.
Seventh? I like that the book ended up in the grave, too. But it isn't destroyed; Sammy *can* go get it, and perhaps Sammy even copied some of the scientific formula into his laptop or into John's journal (Hello, Journal! Nice to see you this week!) so he could recreate the forumula especially with...
The Eight: Smart!Dean. Oh, I love Smart!Dean. And I love the idea that immortality isn't magical, but rather scientific.
And as an aside, I learned this morning that on May 8, 1790, Tallyrand proposed the metric system to the Assembly in France. Ooooh, I just love Bishop Charles Maurice!
Ninth? Oh, the emo!man!pain! The angsting and woe! Oh, wait. I mentioned the emo already. Well, there was so much of it, I had to mention it again.
Oh, boys.
Tenth? Organ theft! Kidneys! Bathtub! Back to the urban legends that started it all! Wheee!
Eleventh? During the exorcism, when the demon said, "your mother!" who thought he was telling the truth and Mary really was behind this, somehow dragged into hell and trying to reassemble her family there with her sons at her side? Is there fic for that theory? Will there be?
And what do we think happens next week? And next season? Dean dies, goes to hell, and Sam does Orpheus and goes to rescue him and battles Lilith? Dean dies and comes back as Chad Michael Murray? Speaking of which, can I read the Kripke interview yet or are there spoilers for next week's ep in it?
Oh, and yes, I know I didn't give a number to the Bela plotline - they wrapped it up well enough, but I fret that the explanation for her backstory is too cliched and minimizes the reality, but they didn't have much time for exposition and less expo is better than more in this case. Bye, Bela - you were never really redeemed or redeemable, and no way are you 24, but I hope Lauren finds success somewhere else.
after they left Dr Benton, they took a quick swing to Hershey, PA for a quick day of rides & chocolate? It's only five hours away at normal-people driving speeds...
Mmmm, Show. You gave good mytharc+MOTW this week. : gives Show fourteen gold stars

Date: 2008-05-09 02:34 am (UTC)That bit seemed to be an odd Tarantino homage -- live burial, and the line "wakey wakey, eggs and bacey" as uttered by the burier, are both found in Kill Bill 2.

Date: 2008-05-09 02:38 am (UTC)If the devil is six, then God is seven? *grins* /pixies
It makes me wonder, if Sam had those extra six months, did he do any research about the deal? I mean, just to satisfy his own curiosity? Or did he become RoboSam, killing machine?
I totally think Mary has a connection to Hell, but I think I told you my theory about that.
I think it'd be funny if someone made the Winchester Map of the US, which I think would be vastly more compact than the *real* US. *grins*

Date: 2008-05-09 02:54 am (UTC)I think there's going to be an Orpheus type plot next season, but hopefully not with Dean back as Chad Michael Murphy. :P

Date: 2008-05-09 03:01 am (UTC)Did you read the first issue of the Rising Son comic?
And mmm, Orpheus. I am strongly tempted to figure out a way to vid that concept, but perhaps with Dean coming back in various bodies - CMM, Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton - we could run through a slew of Jared's former co-stars...
: ponders, finishes storyboarding of Bela vid for editing tomorrow

Date: 2008-05-09 03:16 am (UTC)4. That amused me too!! You know secretly, when he's waiting for the lights to change at an intersection, he can't help himself from hitting the lock/unlock button on the remote keys.
7. I noticed the book too, and did you see Sam's face when they cut to him? I had wondered briefly why they didn't destroy it or even put it in with the Doc, but then Sam's face made it make sense.
9. Loved the emo!man!pain, lol. And they do it so prettily too. *sigh*
11. They totally managed to psych me out in that moment. I gasped. And then realized I'd almost been had.
Oh show. *loves* You're going to kill me next week, aren't you?

I didn't think they were offering him immolation, either, but I can buy it, I guess. Seems to me they could have found a more final way to kill him, but okay.
I agree Bela's explanation is too pat (I'm not too happy about Lilith being the contract holder, either) though at the same time, I wish they had thought of tying her into the mythology sooner, because I think it would have given her more interest earlier. I get a little tired of "It's not working; kill it" as the problem-solving mechanism, though.
Boys working apart = BAD. Oh, Sam. You're not thinking at all, dude.
Meh. Will watch again. May like better. Slapped forehead about 4 times at least....

Date: 2008-05-09 04:36 am (UTC)10. Was anyone else disappointed that Dr. Benton's secret headquarters was not located deep within Candy Mountain?
As for the rest, word. Kudos to Billy Drago for another creepy performance. In my humble, he's one of the best villain character actors around.

OMG, Heidi. This episode was so intense (and scary). I don't know how I'm gonna get through the finale!

Date: 2008-05-11 01:33 am (UTC)If there's one thing that *really* *really* *really* screws up my psyche it's what happened in this ep that also happened in Heroes.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch this ep again.
