Iron Man!

Shiny! Shiny film, completely adorable and sharp.

I'm one of those longtime Robert Downey Jr fans - I actually *own* Chances Are - and to see this as such a success is a thrill and he was perfectly sublime in it. And I've enjoyed Jon Favreau since Rudy Swingers Rudy Swingers although I didn't love Elf, and I just love how he's played in the superhero genre. And Gwyneth was fantastic and Terrence was adorable and Jeff was subverting The Dude with every word, and was brilliant.

I loved it, I loved staying through the credits - I knew what was happening but Aaron and the other comic book boys in the audience only knew To Stay, Dammit! and there were gasps and at least one Woooooo!

We got a sneak preview of Speed Racer, which I'd been looking forward to, but am less so now. I would've seen Iron Man no matter what, but I'm thinking of sending Aaron with the kids to Speed Racer - it just feels too fantastic without any purpose, to me, and while I sometimes love that, I'm just not sure about this. What's the buzz on it? Is it like Matrix 1 or Matrix 2/3?

Also, so much love for the Indiana Jones trailer, which I hadn't seen on a big screen yet. Huh, I think Iron Man is the first movie I've seen in a theater since National Treasure 2. But this is going to be a lovely summer - Batman is only a few weeks away!

ETA: New icon! (But if someone can help me do it with the text a bit crisper, I'd be thrilled...)

Did you catch the Egregious Spelling Error that occurred in the magazine-cover sequence? I was horrified. *grins*

I loved it, too! So much!

Bonus points for not ending with a Tony/Pepper kiss.

I was so happy that Tony and Pepper didn't get together at the end. It would have made for a Happy Fairy Tale Ending (TM)(C)(R), which was so not the point of this movie.

Totally. I thought all of the relationships were written extremely well. They were layered and complex and none of the dynamics were exactly what they seemed - just like real life and unlike most comic book films.

No, I missed it! What was it?

(I was blinded by the adorable-ness of the "Back to School"-era photos!)

Agreed!

And it wasn't the "I will endanger you!" of Harry Potter SpiderMan, either. So yay for breaking the trope.

So, so fabulous.

Huh, maybe I should do this icon with RDJ in The Suit and the same tagline....

During the magazine-cover montage, there was one that said "Younger Stark Takes Reigns". *facepalms*

Yeah.

The thing with Speed Racer is that the W brothers wanted to make a movie their nieces and nephews could watch, so it's definitely not like Matrix. The special effects perhaps, but not the tone, theme or mood. I think it looks really cool and can't wait to see it.
