Gacked from
slytherincess and
aome, I took the typing test but the "paste it" code didn't manifest properly in Firefox, so here's my info:
I wish someone had a typing test for the sidekick, which, as an update to my posts about the Sprint and t-mobile HTC devices, I've decided to keep (although the screen is getting a little wiggy so I may have to upgrade to the LX after the holidays). The HTC I was using is sold as the Wing by tmobile and the Mogul by Sprint and it just didn't work as well for me as the sidekick does - I think it's the sidekick keyboard that keeps me around, as well as a realisation that since I have the broadband card for my mini-laptop, I don't really need to be able to access all my documents, for example, on my handheld - good email and web browsing and IM-ing is a lot more important to me than, say, writing Excel docs. I do wish there was a facebook app for the Sidekick, rather than just the myspace one, and I'd definitely appreciate an LJ app that would allow me to load in my flist to some high skip= number, even if it was just in Mobile form, but the web browser isn't bad and I think my hands are just used to it. So yeah, sidekick stability for me.
Terrifying experience last night in the kitchen - I came down to put a bowl away, and there was a mouse in the bread bowl - that's where we keep challah and bagels in zip-lock bags. The evil thing ate through the baggie and was fully enclosed within a challah and I am so proud of myself that I didn't wake children with my screams. About 25 years ago, my mom saw a mouse run across the kitchen floor - we were upstairs with my dad and Grandma - and screamed so loudly that my grandmother shouted at my dad to go down because "they're killing her!" She thought someone had broken into the house, my mom was yelling so loudly - but of course, it was just a mouse. Yesterday I let the little guy run off, then trashed the bread and everything else in the bowl, but today, the exterminator will be called. Oh yes, he will be. Sorry, little mice - but you're not as Clever as the rat in Ratatouille.
I know I still haven't blogged about Monday's Heroes
I think this episode did lose something because of the writer's strike - it felt like they were rushing to get it written, so some things that could've been done more eloquently, or in a more streamlined way, weren't tweaked as much as they needed to be - I would've loved a smidge of *anything* of Nathan looking for Peter, and I think that's going to be something that was intended to be included, but ended up skipped. Same for more exposition on the Backstory of Victoria. But I loved Elle in the car, and the visual and emotional parallels of Claire on the beach with the ashes, everything involving Sylar, and the conversation between Mohinder and Noah, which I think totally justifies my thought last week that Bob and Mohinder planned to shoot Noah and bring him back. I'm 99% sure that Bob knew it was going to work - I'd think that the Company had tested Adam's blood over the years but didn't need to use it because they had Linderman to do healing on people who were still alive. I can see Linderman and Adam totally bonding over the Healing Thing sometime in the late 60s, and I need to go back to the graphic novels of Linderman & Petrelli Sr in Viet Nam to see some timeline - things.
So while I loved aspects of this episode - and wondered if Peter flew Adam down to texas and where the fic about *that* is - it felt, as someone else on my flist said, that there was an additional episode that could have been inserted somewhere between 10 and the upcoming 12 to get more Content in, but they were hampered by the network's schedule and insistence that they finish this arc in December, as well as by the run-up to the writer's strike. There are so many fantastic missing scenes from this entire arc, but especially since episode 9 - what's Nathan been up to, how is Angela doing in jail, where is Matt right now and is he doing any regular policing, how did The Twins + Sylar get to NYC, where is Sylar getting money (my theory is that he snagged a Winchester wallet, lalala), does he have his powers back, why won't Hiro take Ando on any of his jaunts (and yes,
sabaceanbabe, I used that word on purpose!), what do Adam and Peter talk about in the car, does Peter have Molly's powers, has Bob talked to Elle like that her whole life, and why are the Bennetts still getting out of town and will they start using their real names again? And I know there's more - so if you have any recs for "missing scenes" fics from these recent eps, please let me know!
As re the newly announce Doctor Who spoilers, I could write an essay about the whole thing, but I'd end up repeating
longtimegone, so instead I'll just say that I agree with about 99% of what she wrote here, which obviously contains spoilers for Doctor Who S4. Read At Your Own Risk. Hm, maybe next summer, I'll re-cut the vid I did for Modern Girl...
Last chance to request a vid for me to make! I'll make a poll on it tomorrow - there've been some amazing requests so far - and I'm going to add two of my own bunnies into the poll, too. My FiL is coming into town tomorrow night which means I'll have time to vid over the weekend, which I normally never do! Yay!
Meep! Long post! Off to the gym where I will treadmill to songs from Enchanted and Legally Blonde: The Musical. It's an interesting mix.

Date: 2007-11-28 03:05 pm (UTC)Probably not or he wouldn't have killed Alejandro that way - unless he just doesn't *know* he has them back.
Because he doesn't want to risk Ando's life?
Since Peter can phase through things after just being near DL, I'd say absolutely he does. He just doesn't know about that ability.
Because that's what Noah was planning to do and Sandra probably assumes it's still the best idea.
My question is: with Noah gone, how will Sandra handle pulling the family together and getting them to a place where the company won't be able to find them.
And I'm with you - the rushed pace is frustrating. I know Kring promised to not leave us hanging and give us a real finale for the abbreviated season, but I really wish he hadn't lingered so long over Hiro in the past. It might have made for a much better season, more exposition for everyone else and a more satisfying lead-in to next week's episode.
Oh, and I really can't stand the twins.

Date: 2007-11-28 03:15 pm (UTC)The thought of ruined challah makes so SO SAD. They are so delicious! Also, the fact that it was fully enlosed in the bread?kzsjfhksjdhfkh I admire your lack of loud and insane screaming. XD

And that typing test was fun! :D Thanks for the link!
You reached 372 points, so you achieved position 5111 on the ranking list
You type 481 characters per minute
You have 89 correct words and
you have 1 wrong words
Of course, that was the second try, so I guess I cheated. The first was slightly slower with three mistakes. I only had 81 words then. Practice makes perfect? :D

Date: 2007-11-28 04:33 pm (UTC)The last time I saw a live mouse (and by live I mean not quite dead yet), it was being flung against a wall over and over again by one of my cats. I was pretty impressed that she caught it in the first place, given that she didn't have any front claws.
*shudder*
I feel pretty much the same way about this last ep, although it never even occurred to me that it might have been the way it was because of the impending writers' strike. Parts were excellent and parts were just... wtf? Mohinder? Honey? Noah's been around the company a lot longer than you and used to trust them completely. You really should consider that there might be a very good reason for him to want to destroy it now. *headdesk*

Date: 2007-11-28 04:41 pm (UTC)But I would have thought they'd at least keep a sample of his blood around... just because it seems like a handy thing to have. Bad planning there!
why are the Bennetts still getting out of town
And why is it taking them just as long to get out of town as it did for Sylar and the Twins to drive from Mexico to NYC, or for Bob to fly back to NY, pretend to cremate HRG, and then fly back to California. Good thing this family doesn't actually have to get somewhere quickly. Shesh.
(Sylar) does he have his powers back
I was taking the tick-tock sounds to mean he's getting them back. Maybe they haven't fully returned yet or maybe he only got his original power back (to be able to see how powers work).

Date: 2007-11-28 06:24 pm (UTC)I've heard a lot of people complain about this second season, and I really think it would have been good if they'd had a full season -- I love exposition and development and backstories, but when they're forced to go from exposition to conclusion in the span of a few episodes, the quality really suffers. The good parts this week were all hampered by the viewers' knowledge that they would have been BETTER had they happened in the nineteenth episode instead of the eleventh; it just makes me sad that we might never know what this Volume II was supposed to be.
And I can't stand the twins either, especially now -- if they'd had time to develop any Maya/Sylar conflicts, maybe Maya would be a more interesting character. But she's pretty dumb, if I'm being honest -- I know how desperate it feels when it seems nobody understands you, but how does she not see through Sylar? And I know she was excited about being able to control her power, but why did she totally forget what a creepy bastard Sylar was being seconds earlier? (Also, I wish Alejandro hadn't had the dumbest power known to man -- a character whose only purpose is Maya's Safety Net isn't quite as interesting as, you know, any of the other ones.)

Heroes thoughts
Date: 2007-11-28 08:30 pm (UTC)This season was rushed and compressed, and they wasted too much time on certain storylines, i.e. Japan, Claire and her cheerleading and West stalking her. We should have had more Sylar information, more of Adam pouring sweet lies into Peter's ear (because it does make Peter look stupid and gullible the way it's presented now, and I don't think that was their intention), and more Angela, Nathan, Matt, Niki. Yes, Niki. We haven't been given a chance to care about her, so we don't.
I don't think the strike was the cause, though. I think it was a victim of way too much hype and too rushed of a schedule. None of the writers thought that they'd suddenly have to come up with an even more nuanced, sophisticated show for season 2; Heroes was such a long shot, and no one expected it to be this huge of a phenomenon. They tried, but they were scrambling, and everything got all jumbled. They did everything they could to give the fans what they wanted, without ever stopping to think "What actually makes this show good AND extraordinary AND unique?" It's not shirtless Peter, as much as I appreciate that. And the loss of Bryan Fuller and the diminished role of Jeph Loeb on the writing staff has nearly killed the spark that was in the dialogue last season. They need to hire someone else who is extremely clever, funny, and knows how to do sentiment without it being cloying. If they can do that, I'm more than happy to wait another year for them to get it right. Unfortunately, I don't think many more people will be.

Date: 2007-11-28 10:22 pm (UTC)I think that if he found out that Mohinder was carrying the vial of Claire's blood, that he would use it to restore his powers. If not, Mohinder's blood seems likely to cure him, since he had the same viral strain that the Haitian and Molly had. Either way, Niki would be fucked, since Mohinder has been delayed.
Molly:
Poor kid; imagine waking up to find that Sylar is back. I sure hope that Matt comes home and rescues her.
Peter:
I remember thinking, "So that's where he got the scar featured in the alternate future."
Poor buttmonkey. Last time, it was Mohinder being used, and this time it's Peter.
I gotta run, but I'll let you know if anything else occurs to me.
