What I learned via my flist today:

John Winchester's truck has a cd player, and is for sale for $5500 (but must be picked up in Vancouver)

Harry Reid is keeping the senate open over Thanksgiving to block Bush making any recess appointments.

I am not the only non-vegetarian on LJ who hates turkey! I have a major food aversion to turkey so Thanksgiving is a little awkward for me, but this year there will be salmon, so it's all good.

John Edwards joined the WGA on the picket line at Universal today! Does anyone know if they'll be picketing on Thursday and if so, where and whether any of the fan-groups are sending Thanksgiving-specific treats that day?

ETA + change of icon: ...and something I learned elsewhere - Target has all the seasons of Gilmore Girls on sale for fifteen bucks, marked down from either 36 or 44, so if you need a complete collection of Stuff Incorporating Milo and/or Jared this might be a good week for it? Me, I'm just looking for material for that preseries Peter/Sam vid that I'd love to do. And the show's writers do get residuals from dvd sales....

Good! I sent a note to one of my senators (the one who will listen) telling her about some of the tricks LBJ pulled when he was in the House and Senate, as described in this book. BTW, did you know that during his term in the Senate that he and the other Democrats tried to use the "nuclear option"?

Heh. I don't have an aversion to turkey, but it's not my first (second, or even fifth) choice, so every year I try to convince my mother that roast chicken would work, or a nice spiral ham, and every year I am voted down. Sigh. At least there will be pie.

I don't have an...aversion, per se, to turkey. It's just not something I enjoy. I eat my token piece then move on to STARCHFEST!!!! :D

I hate turkey! Actually, I was thinking the other day that I cannot remember ever actually EATING turkey (since I decided I hate it at such a young age), but I can't bring myself to try it since I have so many years of aversion built up. :p

I eat vegetables and pecan pie at Thanksgiving. :p

A few years back my son asked how much turkey he had to eat to get cupcakes. We showed him, he ate it, and didn't take another bite of anything until we gave him CUPCAKE!

Does the smell of it bother you too, or just the taste?

Of the pies my parents make at Thanksgiving? Apple crumb. They make a fantastic apple crumb pie. Overall? Probably key lime.

Thanks for the tip about the Gilmore Girls dvds! My sister and I have been buying them for my mom over the past few years, and she said she'd stop by to see if we can complete the set.

Count me in among those who won't eat turkey.

I will eat nearly everything, but sometimes I wish for a less traditional Thanksgiving meal. I've been known to cook teriyaki sirloin tips with asparagus or spiral ham in place of turkey. This year, we are using ground turkey and sweet potatoes to make shepard's pie.

It's funny, but my brother has an aversion to eggs. Easter is problematic, since the smell of hard-boiled eggs makes him extremely nauseous. It makes me wonder how many people I know have a food intolerance, allergy or aversion.

At this point, it's totally the smell. :/

I don't like turkey either! If I can, I try to talk my family into also fixing ham. I do like smoked turkey, but that's a rarity. So I look at it this way: More room for the great side dishes. One year for Christmas my cousins had been hunting so we had duck, pheasant, quail, and dove. It was GREAT.

Hey, another person with a turkey aversion!

Oh, how I dreaded Thanksgiving when I was a child. The smell of that turkey cooking was horrible!

Now that I'm older, my sense of smell seems to be less sensitive, so the smell of a turkey cooking doesn't bother me as much. (Good thing, too, because we'll be going to my in-laws and they always make turkey.) I suspect the TASTE would still make me gag, but I don't know, because I've been a vegetarian for 26 years.

I had a major egg aversion when I was pregnant with Harry. Eggs cooked into things were fine but anything like omlettes or even quiche made me sick from the smell. Gah, that was helligh.

Smoked turkey is actually a major problem for me - and it comes in so many diet program meals that I can't do them at all, which is annoying.
Duck sounds terrific - I've never tried dove though. What's it like?

Well, that's one way to avoid it!
Hey, are you going to be back in Orlando this spring? I may be up the first weekend in April...

Oh, good, another non-vegetarian who doesn't like turkey. Or gravy, or sweet potatoes, or cranberry relish, or rutabagas or any number of things on other peoples' must-have list. On Thanksgiving I live for appetizers and dessert. Pie, yum!

Dove? It's white meat, but it has a bit of a "wild" taste to it. I like it. More flavor than chicken.

I am hoping to get to Orlando in early 2008, but I'm not sure just when. If we're around at the same time, I would be great to get together!
