Is she totally dense? How many fans almost begged to have one single character come out during the course of the series?

How could she not know that a gay or lesbian character would be greeted with enthusiasm - particularly such a prominent one? Or did she keep quiet about it because such an admission would have given the irReligious Right in the US another reason to denounce her books?

I don't know! I worry that maybe the ban on discussion of slash by sites like Mugglenet (although they may've changed that policy in the last few years; I don't know) influenced her perspective on this?
