Three semifavourish fannish things:

1. A Glasgow paper is interested in interviewing a fanfic writer who's local to the area. Anyone interested? I'll need your phone number to pass on to the reporter - so replies to this post are screened.

2. If you've ever done fic intake for FictionAlley and can spare 5-20 hours in the next week to help us get through the queue as it's backed up from the server crash, let me know via a comment or by YMing or emailing me and I'll get you up to speed. This doesn't obligate you to help beyond next Thursday or Friday - and if all you can spare is five hours this weekend, that would be a big help too!

3. I thought it would be great if there was a community where people could post their reviews of Deathly Hallows, sort of to have an archive of this Moment In Time (cue Whitney Houston) that would be open from about two AM on July 21 (UK time) until the end of July 31 in Hawaii - that should catch most of the more obsessive readers, and there can be a final post that people can post reviews to in perpetuity. So I made [livejournal.com profile] hallows_reviews - it's modded for now but I'll remove the modded-posts obligation late on the 20th. I'd love to have two or three more people to help mod the comm, and maybe some help with making the comm look ok. And obviously, it'll be a potentially spoilery place. If you're interested, let me know!

What do you expect mods to do? I'd consider volunteering, but the problem is that I don't want to commit to *anything* on the 21st but buying and reading the book!

Re: 3. Cool idea, and I've cross-posted. [livejournal.com profile] starsthatguide tells me there's also [livejournal.com profile] discuss_book7, a mod-post only community with one post per chapter so that readers/reviewers can comment-converse about "how far along they are" without fear of spoilers beyond their own current chapter.

We're doing a chapter-by-chapter thing on FA as well - we did it for Book 6 and people seemed to like it. There's so many ways to gather all this user-created content & info - it's kind of nifty!

Hey, lemme know if I can help with the discussion comm. I won't be getting home until late Sunday evening, but I'll be online pretty much all day, everyday, all the next week. :D

I would be happy to help. Let me know if you want me to design an icon or something meanwhile...

I have the guys at work putting together a widget that people can post to LJ, MySpace, wherever, that will let people text in their photos and videos from release parties all to one place and update every time someone sends in a new photo! We did it for the 4th of July and it was really cool.

I also may be getting prefect badge stickers to hand out at the release party here.

I love how they support my geekiness.

And that party thing? Happens all the freaking time. Every time I have to decline a party invite, it's BECAUSE OF ANOTHER PARTY, and then there aren't any for weeks and weeks.

Basically, extra people to deal with any problematic posts (things that are spammy or abusive) in the week after the book comes out. Anyone who reads the comm has to be prepared to see spoilers for the whole book, so you really need to be done reading before you look at the comm, but once you're finished reading, it shouldn't be very time consuming. I hope.

Also, ICON TWINS!

Oooh, yes! Maybe something that says that said icon-user is done reading and ready to talk about the book?

Also, your icon is so totally perfect in a post-OotP:The Movie universe! Hee!

OH SQUEE. They're lovely!

Could you do one that just says "Waiting..." and another one that says, "I'm reading! Shhhhhh!"

Oops, sorry, meant to reply last night. Spoilers are not a problem for me, since I'm one of those people who tends to peek ahead. (Or rather, they bother me only because they ruin other people's enjoyment. I don't post spoilers on new books because of that, but for myself I don't care.) So I might actually be good for moderating before the book is published, to ward off idiots before then.

After the book is published, I still don't care about spoilers - my only reservation about being a mod then is that I want to spend Saturday reading the book, not checking posts! After I finish (which probably will be on Saturday) I'd be happy to help.
