Food & Drink question for all of you.

Who makes the best Margarita in the world? Why?

Who makes the best salsa in the world? Why?

My answers are:

Margarita: The restaurant I went to with my mom, my sister and our two daughters the last day that the five of us were in LA together. They did this amazing thing with silver agave and lime-tinged rock-salt on the rim, and it was amazing.

Second to that is the mexican place across the street from DTUT's on 2nd avenue and 8485th street in NYC. They also have this amazing honey-habanero glazed chicken. Yum. (ETA: Mustang Grill.)

Salsa: I love what they have at the Baja's chain in california - their salsa fresca is light and yummy and cucumber-free, and their salsa verde is terrific. But the best I've ever had was at Bobby Flay's long-gone mesa city the night of my bachelorette party. But my review of it might be augmented by the amount of champagne and margaritas I had that night?

And kudos to [livejournal.com profile] sparkly_stuff for linking to grindhouse-style movie posters for things like Sorcerer's Stone, Little Miss Sunshine, Doctor Strangelove, and about 100 more. Amazing photoshopping! I think I need the one for An Inconvenient Truth as an icon (am off to ask if I can...).

And special love for Batman, ET and

Oh gosh, those posters are slick stuff. The Zoolander is definately one of the best, though Dr. Strangelove and Dead Man Walking (hah!) are up there. An Inconvenient Truth would be among those top ones, if only "inconvenient" was spelt correctly.

84th and 2nd? Hmm... Which corner? The only thing I can think of is Mustang Grill (a Tex-Mex place at 85th and 2nd), on the other side of 2nd Ave from DT-UT. That's muh 'hood, btw! [livejournal.com profile] kiffle and I live on 84th and York.

I've never had Mustang's margaritas (I've actually only eaten there once), but I may have to go try them some time (not today, since I'll never get a table, I'm sure!). They have really really good fajitas and the chicken tortilla soup is divine. I'm now totally craving Mexican food.

Margaritas: My dad's old boss at Callaway, Jimbo, made the best damned margarita I ever put in my mouth. Not frozen, thankyouverymuch, plenty of lime juice, perfect. Perfect.

Salsa: my mango salsa. Not too much cilantro, a little alaea salt, serve on fresh fish - not salmon, shark is good.

The best margarita I've ever had was not made with tequilla

At Tad's Montana Grill they have a margarita made with gin... it's fantastic. Very different tasting but still tastes like a margarita.

Salsa! Just about any restaurant in Tucson, but My fave is at Rosa's Mexican Food. It's the perfect mix of tomato, chili, garlic, onions, cilantro and lime, all blended smooth. We have Bajas here and there's no comparison.

I don't know about Margaritas because I like Bohemia (a Mexican beer) so much.
