Am crazybusy packing for Prophecy, finishing a closing (tomorrow, which is why I am going to Proph tomorrow instead of tonight), activating my dad's new iPhone and celebrating my eldest's birthday (and happy birthday to Amber and Ivy as well!) but I wanted to quickly pass on this info:

Mattel, the maker of Barbie dolls and Hot Wheels cars, is recalling nearly one million toys in the United States today because the products are covered in lead paint.

The recall, the second biggest this year involving toys, covers 83 products made from April 19 to July 6. Many of them feature Sesame Street and Nickelodeon characters — including the Elmo Tub Sub, the Dora the Explorer Backpack, and the Giggle Gabber, a toy shaped like Elmo or Cookie Monster that toddlers shake to hear giggles and funny noises.

Mattel says it prevented more than two-thirds of the 967,000 affected toys from reaching consumers by stopping the products in its distribution centers and contacting retailers, like Wal-Mart, Target and Toys ‘R’ Us, late last week. But more than 300,000 of the tainted toys have been bought by consumers in the United States. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the toys may have a date code from 109-7LF to 187-7LF on the product or packaging.

Here's the list of products behind the cut: )

We have a huge number of these toys, and are basically going to toss all our Dora and Diego things today and have the little ones tested for lead poisoning next week.

In other news, I read Nevermore, the first Supernatural "official" novel, and I actually kinda liked it. Not sure about one bit of the Sam characterization as re being on a college campus, and I'm wondering if the bits from the Dept of Backstory are gleaned directly from the show team as I really hope they are, and yes there are fics that are just as good if not better, but it's definitely worth six bucks of support for the show and a few hours of reading time (and it's more portable than a computer!).

I'm not going to be able to make it to Crowded House in Boston on Sunday, but I have two tickets to their concert at 730 (well, that's when Liam Finn as Opening Act starts).

I paid 45 bucks each but I'd be happy to get 40-50 total for them. So, first person on my flist to say they want them, unless someone not on my flist paypals $50 to heidi @ heidi8.com first.

All replies are screened because I need a real name to arrange for ticket pickup.
