Air America Radio's Public Voicemai 1-866-217-6255
Air America Radio's Public Voicemail is a way for disconnected people to communicate in the wake of Katrina. Here's how it works: Call the toll-free number above, enter your everyday phone number, and then record a message. Other people who know your everyday phone number (even if it doesn't work anymore) can call Emergency Voicemail, enter the phone number they associate with you, and hear your message.
> You can also search for messages left by people whose phone numbers > you
> know. Air America Radio will leave Public Voicemail in service for as
> long as this crisis continues. You can call it whenever you are trying > to
> locate someone, or if you are trying to be found.

Please spread this one around. It's totally free and may help families and friends who have been separated connect with each other again.

Wired News has an article about Scipionus, which is a wiki-setup of information about specific geographic areas along the Gulf Coast. If you have specific info - or want info - about a block or a street or a building, you can share it or find it there.

Went to the baseball game yesterday. The Red Cross was collecting, everyone felt that the National Anthem was for those along the Gulf Coast and all of us were talking about our terror that if we see another high-category storm in rhe last three months of this hurricane season, the likelihood is that we in Florida are fully fucked.

But at the game, one thing I noticed was that the flags were at full staff.

What's up with that?

How many thousands have to die before the president orders the flags to half staff? We are a nation in mourning. None of us - no person in this country - isn't two degrees removed from an evacuee - and it's likely that none of us are more than three degrees away from someone who has died.

It's so minor compared to evacuating people and rescuing people and hydrating and healing people. But the flags in this country need to go to half staff.

<a href='http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/3/131934/7503">DailyKos has a list of offers of aid which were refused (see Chicago) or delayed (see various foreign countries whose offers had to wait for Condi to finish theater-going and shoe-shopping before being deemed worthy of consideration).</a> Thanks <user site="livejournal.com" user="cleolinda"> for the heads-up. Also, who posted the narrative by one of the members of the Neville family?
