WOW.And I think I'll be stuck there for a few days, at least!
And here's why...FictionAlley was nominated for a WEBBY award! Of course, we're up against LiveJournal and Friendster, but as I just wrote in an email to
bradfitz, if FictionAlley, for some bizarre reason, actually wins, it's a victory for LJ as well, because LJ really is a part of FA's community - hence, things like
fiction_alley!
If you're not familiar with the WEBBY's, they started back in 1996, when a number of Silicon Valley denizens created an award to honour the best of the web at a snapshot in time. You can see the judging criteria
here, and after looking at the criteria, it seems clear to all of us at FA that the nomination is not for us - the admins, the coders, the mods - it's for ALL the users of the site, all the authors, the artists, the posters, the reviewers. They, and by definition, all of you, are the ones who make FA a community.
And I love, love, love all of you!
Now, of course, I have to do the gratuitous plug for votes - I'm also adding the link to my LJ and I ask ALL of you to please vote and plug the link in your LJs, your FA sigfiles, your Yahoogroups - everywhere. I don't have any expectation that we're going to win, but I would love to not come in last ;). You can, therefore, vote
here; please do. We think this may be the first time a fandom site has been nominated for the COMMUNITY category, and it would be great to get as many votes as possible from all the members of the community!
: dances off, again, to squee!
ETA: BK deLong of The Leaky Cauldron is a part of
mitopencourseware's team, so vote for them in the SERVICES category!
