I don't understand why this entire fandom is branded by the phrase "tolerant of plagiarism" when the attitude posessed by most of the authors, reviewers, archivists and readers is that when a fic has insufficient, incorrect or inappropriate disclaimers or citations, people generally say, "Fix it now," rather than, "You evil fiend! You must be banished from the fandom! Now go and never ever come back!"

What on earth is wrong with that attitude?

Perhaps it's because we're all fans of a book where Dumbledore has clearly taken Snape back into his fold despite the fact that Snape was a Death Eater? Perhaps it's because we know from reading about Sirius Black that things are not always as they've been reported - even by the Minister of Magic - to be?

Perhaps it's because we still don't know how the story ends?

I don't know the answer, and I don't know the reason.

All I know is, I like the attitude. I'm glad I've seen it expressed by a wide range of people in a wide range of fandoms, too.
