40. End of the Line Traveling Wilburys
1. Which song do you prefer, 1 or 40?
I prefer In Love With It All to End of the Line - definitely. I don't prefer *every* Finn song over every other song by anyone else, but in a cage match, Finn Bros (as a pair) definitely have an advantage.
2. Have you ever listened to 12 continuously on repeat?
Neon Telephone? Yes - that Three O'Clock album was one of my earliest purchases on CD in college in the basement of Houston Hall, and I played it a *lot*. Wendy & Lisa are on this song, too.
3. What album is 26 from?
Upside Down is the main song from the Curious George soundtrack, and should have been nominated for an Oscar.
4. What do you think about the artist who did 15?
Hue & Cry is one of my favorite bands in life. I love them very much, as
tillytilly can attest.
5. Is 19 one of your favorite songs?
All That She Wants was never one of my favorite songs, even when it was uberpopular. It reminds me of my college boyfriend, which isn't necessarily bad, just weird.
6. Who does 38 remind you of?
Nobody - it vaguely reminds me of being in NYC, but not of anyone in particular. 39 reminds me of my friend Lily who went to see EBTG with me when I was in law school and she was working at the Pentagon for the summer. Wonder what ever happened to her...
7. Does 20 have better lyrics or music?
Mean to Me has the best lyrics of almost any song ever. It's a true story about a fangirl who flew from America to New Zealand to stalk Neil Finn on this tour he did after Split Enz disbanded, as part of a group-thing with Dave Dobbyn and others and they were playing rather downmarket places and he was nudged fiercely into meeting with her and then he wrote a song about her.
She came all the way from America, she had a blind date with destiny, and the sound of Te Awamutu had a truly sacred ring.
It's the first song on the first CH album, and IIRC it was the first song they played at what everyone thought would be their last concert (and what was the last with Paul Hester) back in 1996.
8. Do any of your friends like 3?
: looks at any 30something brits.
Probably someone does.
Anyone? Anyone?
9. Is 33 from a movie soundtrack?
Technically, the original version is from Breakfast at Tiffany's (the film, not the song by Deep Blue Something) but this version is John Barrowman at the Kennedy Center.
Pretty.
10. Is 18 overplayed on the radio?
I have never heard any Hue & Cry song on the radio, much less Life As Text, but radio would be better if it was to be played. And overplayed.
11. What does 21 remind you of?
Somewhere In My Heart reminds me of my senior year of high school, and of my friend Stacey who was the first RL person I ever met who liked Aztec Camera.
12. Which song do you prefer, 5 or 22?
Private Universe or Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses?
Close, but the edge goes to - yes - Crowded House. Sorry, Bono! I love you guys a lot, too!
13. What album is 17 from?
I have no idea what Bust a Move comes from.
14. When did you first hear 38?
I probably first heard Building a Mystery on WHFS or the alt-station in Philadelphia that I got via the internet back in 1998-1999.
15. When did you first hear 7?
I think I first heard Time for a Change back in 1994 or 1995, when I started becoming a Finn Completist. Before that, all I had were the CH albums, Tim's first solo record, the Split Enz Greatest Hits that came out in the summer of 1987 and Corroboree and True Colors. Oh, and See Ya Round!
16. What genre is 8?
The Last to Know is yummy, lovely folky pop. Ah, Stephen Duffy.
17. Do any of your friends like 14?
Oh yes, many on my flist like the Wicked cast recording, and I know many of *them* like Popular.
18. What color does 4 remind you of?
Dream a Little Dream of Me is a navy blue song, as it's a wonder to play to get kids to sleep.
19. Have you ever blasted 11 on your stereo?
The Motive - I have blasted this in cars for 20 years now. Meep.
20. What genre is 37?
Changing of the Guard is Weller. It's a duet between Paul and Dee C Lee (iirc before they got married?) and it's really a story-song and it's a genre unto itself.
21. Can you play 13 on any instrument?
No.
22. What is your favorite lyric from 30?
Erm. I don't listen to Say My Name for the lyrics. They're fine, I guess, but...
23. What is your favorite lyric from 23?
Ah, a cover of Elvis Costello. You can't really separate out any of the specific lines in Oliver's Army - it's complicated enough to have a wikipedia entry about it. The weird thing is, 13 years later, I went to Checkpoint Charlie while they were still disassembling the Berlin Wall. It was becoming a museum then, although still a lot more simple than what I think it is now. So many trouble spots still exist, and so many places mentioned in the song, like South Africa, have changed so much in the 28 years since the song.
24. Would you recommend 24 to your friends?
Sure! Happy Mondays songs are always nice - and this has a good beat and you can dance to it!
25. Is 2 a good song to dance to?
No, I think we can all agree that you cannot dance to the prologue from Les Miz. Or if you did, it would be a big hit on YouTube for the sheer angst!
26. Do you ever hear 16 on the radio?
Occasionally, the XM Broadway station plays Into the Woods songs. Occasionally.
27. Is 32 more of a nighttime or daytime song?
Always on My Mind is a nighttime, clubby sort of song. Yay Pet Shop Boys!
28. Does 36 have any special meaning to you?
Does Someone Else's Story have special meaning to me?
Oh, yes.
29. Do any of your friends like 31?
I am sure that some of my friends like Self Esteem & the Offspring
30. Is 25 a fast or slow song?
This cover of A Little Help From My Friends is relatively poppy, but not particularly fast.
31. Is 35 a happy or sad song?
So Alive is kinda happy-ish? I guess?
32. What is one of your favorite lyrics from 9?
Stay with me might as well
Be the kind of girl you want to stay...
33. Is 34 better to listen to alone or with friends?
Everyone should have a chance to listen to Fairground Attraction's Perfect, but when I'm with others, I can't sing (as my voice is just terrible) and I love to sing to this song. Love, love, love.
34. When did you first hear 27?
Probably on Mtv back in 1986?
35. Name 3 other songs by the artist who did 29.
Um. Three other songs by Nelly? I only know Turn Out the Light. Meep.
36. Do you know all the words to 6?
"Say your car broke down, the thing just isn't movin'..."
Yes.
: is embarrassed
37.Does 28 have better lyrics or music?
Unchained Melody probably has better music. You can't hear a note from it without knowing exactly what it is. But it's the whole package together.
38. What album is 10 from?
From the Music & Lyrics Soundtrack! And if you haven't seen it yet, check it out here!
