I just can't summarize this without giving her quotes:
MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and gay marriage.

Harris made the comments -- which she clarified Saturday -- in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."
Electing non-Christians a 'legislative sin'

"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

Her comments drew criticism, including some from fellow Republicans who called them offensive and not representative of the party.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida, who is Jewish, told the Orlando Sentinel that she was "disgusted" by the comments.

Harris' campaign released a statement Saturday saying she had been "speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government."

The comments reflected "her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values," the statement said, adding that Harris had previously supported pro-Israel legislation and legislation recognizing the Holocaust.

Harris' opponents in the GOP primary also gave interviews to the Florida Baptist Witness but made more general statements on their faith.*

Harris, 49, faced widespread criticism for her role overseeing the 2000 presidential recount as Florida's secretary of state.

State GOP leaders -- including Gov. Jeb Bush -- don't think she can win against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in November. Fundraising has lagged, frustrated campaign workers have defected in droves and the issues have been overshadowed by news of her dealings with a corrupt defense contractor who gave her $32,000 in illegal campaign contributions.

* Did they just not ask the Democrats for interviews, or what? Curious, me.

Katherine Harris is apparently trying to prove that she's certifiably insane. Between statements like this and her general Norma Desmond behavior, I hope Floridians can see that she's a few bricks short of a load.

The batshit crazy, it burns.

However, it's fun watching her, in a sick sort of way. You know, give a man enough rope and he'll hang himself.

That is so incredibly weird. I just posted about this in my own journal, and I checked the times we posted, and you posted at 5:00 and me at 5:02.

I guess we Floridian were really, really anxious to prove that we're not all crazy like that bitch. ;o)

Every time I think she can't get any crazier, she does. Her insanity is like some sort of bacteria that reproduces at some crazy exponential rate. If she wins (which I'm sure she won't, because I don't think there are enough people in this state who are that crazy) I may go kill myself. I don't want that woman to ever claim to speak for me.

I am always amused by these attempts to link the Founding Fathers and Jesus. Madison, Franklin, Washington, and Jefferson were all Deists or Unitarians who did not believe in the divinity of Christ.

Madison is the primary author of the Constitution, Jefferson of the Declaration. Fathers don't get any more founding than that.

We need more people like her running for Congress.

No, not in Congress. Just running for it.

I suppose there is no need to vote since God selects our rulers.

HAH! Saw that! Somebody's getting des-per-ate! Anything for a headline! Scuzzy bitch. Even the Republicans don't want anything to do with her. (Florida 2000 was my first election as a campaign worker, and I remain quite bitter about it.

No, no, no, we need more people like Jesse Ventura running for office! Harris isn't even all that funny.

Sure, we need more Venturas, too, but every race should feature a Harris. Preferrably running on the Republican ticket.

Except the problem is that Christians are actually getting this propaganda in church, and at the voting booths. Here in Australia, my parent's church basically came out and said that voting for anyone other than the Christian Democratic Party or Family First was morally wrong and a sin against God, that as a Christian it was hypocritical and sinful to vote for non-Christians.

And they turned up at the booths on election day, to remind their parishioners of their Christian duty. My parents are sane, so disregarded this nonsense, but neither did they speak out against it. We still get emails urging my dad to run for a seat. The hot ticket issues are of course, stem cell research, abortion, gay human rights, use of IVF by single women/gay people.

According to this article, Harris leads her GOP rivals, but a huge chunk of Republican voters are still undecided (47%) less than a month before the primary.

It seems like the Dems don't really need to do much in this race aside from letting Harris run her mouth and sink her campaign.

Well, not that I would have voted for her anyway, but this certainly helps secure my vote for Nelson.

Honestly, it's this kind of crap and drivel that gives all Christians a bad name. Ugh.

Much luck with Ernesto! I'm running out in a few to pick up some extra batteries.

I regret the legal actions taken against that man with his car expressing how the sane people living in this state really feel.

He is a martyr to our sense of fairness and order... which is ironic considering who/what we're talking about.

Good question - I've hated her guts since the whole vote fraud event, so I didn't pay that much attention to her original campaign. Or her re-election.

Except to wonder how stupid people are determined to be on a consistent basis.

I know I'm late to this...but if you want to know why she said what she said, check out the [livejournal.com profile] dark_christian community. Harris is part of a well financed and terrifyingly prevalent evangelical subgroup called the Dominionists who are 100% serious about turning this into a "Christian" country. They have their own home school curricula, theologians, megachurches, and so on, and their books are very popular among evangelicals.

It's very, very scary stuff.
