Just got this from cnn:
-- Apple Computer is recalling 1.1 million laptop batteries supplied by Sony, citing a fire hazard, The Associated Press reports.

Dell did this a week ago as well http://www.cnn.com/2006/BUSINESS/08/15/dell.recall/index.html also batteries by Sony. For anyone browsing - check out www.dellbatteryprogram.com - I did and luckily my laptop battery wasn't affected.

Any details on what products this may implicate?

Ahh I can't find anymore specifics on this! The articles I've read said it is for the ib00k G4 and powerbook G4. I have the iBook. I just don't know if it is for all models or only certain sizes. The apple links I'm finding are for the recall that was May of 2005.

*grumble* Would be nice if the Apple webpage regarding the recall were actually working.

Right now...

...it's only certain ones: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PB and 15-inch PB. Anything based on an Intel, a G3, or 14 or 17 inches is fine.

You'll need to match serial numbers on the battery to see if they are affected.

The website is a little slammed at the moment (shocker) but the direct URL is https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange
