(1) If you could suit it just your way, with the best possible arrangement of work and personal life, what would your life look like?
I think, right now, I'm more or less there. When Jon starts school this summer, and Harry's in camp, I'll be back in the office 3 hours or so each day, and Cate will be with our nanny for that time period, so other than those few hours, and any emergency calls in the afternoon, I'll be able to be with the kids when they're not at school/camp, at the pool or the park. And that'll be *great*.
(2) What IS it about pink, anyway? Has it always been your favorite color?
I'm not even sure it is now; I just happen to think that it looks good on me in a casual sense, although I tend to wear black a lot at night, still. I'm a big fan of a whole range of blues, when I was in college I tended to red sweaters a lot, and of course, as I used to live in NYC, black black black was and still is a staple of my wardrobe. But pink is a great contrasting colour with all of that, and it helps break up the monotony.
(3) How do you see FA evolving/continuing/dying after the publication of Book 7? Do you think you'll always stay around? Do you ever get bored of Potter and fandom stuff?
Well, I don't participate in actual discussions that much, but then again, I never did - I always found reading the discussions and letting people know where to find stuff were more my cup of tea/role. I don't think anyone still around even realises that I was on staff with Leaky Cauldron months before FA even started, and I was also an elf at HPfGU (and the copyright lawyer for the team), again, months before FA came into being. For me, since I was two weeks into the fandom and chatting with John and Simon, or a month later when I first started sending emails to Lori and Penny and later, Cassie, or that fall when I met Alex and Aegeus, among others, in HPfGU Chat, it's always been the people. And how can you get bored wiht your friends?
I'm not sure what role FA will play after Book Seven. I've always hoped that we'd be a Useful Resource, and take on a Yellow Pages/Directory kind of role- FA was created to host fics and later, art, regardless of character, era or ship, and when we started doing that, it was a unique snowflake in the fandom - there was nothing else like it. And LJ had almost no role in fandom then - blogging was just becoming a Thing. I think it's important that we're fluid enough to incorporate the changes to the fandom, while remaining a Useful Resource With Urls And Rules That Don't Spontaneously Change, and to be honest, with all the Random Changes at ffn, I'm not sure why people are willing to trust That Place with their stories anymore anyway. Then again, FA's perpetual tagline will not be FA: Where We Won't Spontaneously Delete Your Songfic because, well, it's too limiting.
(4) Considering that you've got your fingers in all over the fandom, what is your ONE favorite fandom activity?
Real life events, because (a) they're a great way to meet other fandomers while you're planning the thing, (b) they're a great way to learn about the whole of the fandom while you're planning the thing, and (c) they're a great way to experience bits of the fandom that you've never seen before while you're attending the thing. And I'm not just speaking of HPEF cons here - POAIMAXNYC was amazing, and the parties that FA is going to be plugging for the HBP release this summer are going to be great, and we're *just* starting to think about GOFIMAX events in a dozen different cities. (Along those lines, anyone interested in being the point person for a city or town anywhere in the world for either of those things?)
(5) So, baby #4? *evil grin*
OMGWTFLOLNO! Never! We don't have enough rooms in the house! Also, I never want one of those post-epidural headaches again. : sobs :
Now it's YOUR turn...
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your LJ.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on...
And finally, my answers on the SHIP meme:
D/Hr: He is *so* intrigued by her. In at least the first four books, she is not convinced that he is Irredeemably Evil. He is so similar, in so many ways, to Darcy and she has her own share of parallels to Elizabeth. And the fact that they won't "end up" together, according to JKR, does not preclude a romance before he ends up dead at the end of, or possibly in the middle of, book seven.
Cat/Nim: YES! Even though he has mediocre bath salts, he's smart and self-made and funny and charming and cares *so* much about her and he actually deserves her so much more than that chess playing brother of his, even though said brother is likely slightly hotter. Poor Nim. He's going to end up in some superficial romance with a social x-ray who'll never truly appreciate him.
R/Hr: You know, I actually never even realised he had a crush on her until people on HPfGU pointed it out to me. Now, once it was pointed out (July, 2000 for those keeping track), I do see that he does crush on her, but it never was enough to stick out at me, and had it not been pointed out to me, I don't think I would've seen it in OotP either. And I certainly don't think she's interested in him in a romantic way. Girls just shouldn't spend the rest of their lives with guys who are both less intelligent and less ambitious than they are - one is fine, but not both. Not that Ron is *dumb* but no way does he love learning and information and education and thinking the way that she does, and she needs to be with someone who at least cares enough to support her in that, which will always be her first love.
S/H: I've read it. I will continue to read it, because sometimes the dynamic generated is interesting and in character, and the OotP interactions between the two of them are interesting and grist for a lot of thought, but I just don't see Snape as a realistic romantic partner at this stage in his life, and I also don't expect him to survive book seven, in part because I think the afterlife-arguments between him and Sirius would just be too too fun. What can they do to each other, when they're both dead?
R/S: OMGYESOTPOTP! I can't really explain what it was like, shivvering in Radio City Music Hall, three rows from the front of the theater, where nobody had seen PoA before and there were no spoilers for the Shack scene and you're wondering if they're going to include the hug and then they do and then the Old Married Couple line and you're a pile of goo next to your four year old son who doesn't quite understand why Mommy is just shaking and
H/Hr: I read it, I will continue to read it, I like it and can see how their personalities and goals and selves can mesh really well, and I don't enjoy it just because I have bushy brown hair and because my husband has black hair and hazel eyes and glasses. Really, there's other reasons. I'm sure there are...
L/N: See Lily/Snape, but with the family money issues as well. I can see Narcissa feeling towards Lily sort of like Draco feels towards Hermione - a bit of the "who is this upstart mudblood to take the place in class that should have been mine?" attitude.
N/M/S: Ew! She's their grandmother!
(You meant Cat, didn't you?)
I think it would've been a lot better than Solarin/Cat, as I still don't understand *why* or *how* she fell in love with him, especially as Nim already seemed eversovery cool and hot. But they are brothers, and I can see that as an impediment to the whole thing.
S/L: The problem with that would've been any anti-Mudblood prejudices he might've had. It's also the reason why I can't see him actually having a romantic relationship with Lupin while they were in school - not because of the werewolf thing, but because Lupin's a halfblood. But sort of like Draco towards Hermione, I can see him intrigued by her brains and perhaps also by her looks, but also really discomforted by the fact that she's so bright and talented yet is from a Muggle family. If anyone has ever done a fic that even touches on that parallel, I would love to know about it because otherwise, it's on the list of Plot Bunnies I Will Never Have Time To Write, Wah.
Now, Star Wars thingies.
Gacked from someone on my flist - no memory of who:
There are tonnes of spoilers in this:
http://www.theforce.net/topstory/story/Parents_Guide_to_Revenge_of_the_Sith_92098.asp
but it has some good guidance for those of you who, like me, are trying to decide if you want to take your younger kids to see Revenge of the Sith.
Also, for everyone who's enjoyed the Original Trilogy and sat through any part of Eps I & II, MSN has Ten Things That Ought To Be Resolved in ROTS (man, that acronym scares me!), by a true fanboy, with odds on whether each Thing will be Resolved. I agree with the writer when he says, "It's also a fair bet that when writing the original "Star Wars," he hadn't yet decided on her being Luke's sister..." and I too want some Yoda-backstory... No spoilers, as it doesn't sound like the writer has read the novelization or seen the film yet.
