So this is the church where the wedding we attended last Saturday took place. Why is it randomly in the Times today? Because the gentleman who designed it passed away this week. In the obit, we learned that the Thorncrown Chappel (see pic) was voted the fourth-best building of the 20th century by the American Institute of Architects after Wright's Fallingwater and the Chrysler and Seagram buildings in Manhattan.

Wow. Am impressed. I was impressed by its prettiness when we were there, but it's interesting to know that it's so well thought of, too.

In other news, you may've seen that Hurricane Frances is sauntering vaguely westward, towards southeastern Florida. At this moment, the projected path barely includes Miami-Dade County anymore, but they've cancelled school tomorrow and Friday already; not sure what to do with the boys for an unplanned five day weekend; we are trying to make a playdate or two now.

I will try and keep this LJ posted if it turns towards us - we'll be heading out to a hotel near the airport if there's any likelihood of having hurricane-force winds here. Our roof is only a year old and while I am very sure the walls of this house are damned strong (it's vingate 1933) the new addition is untested, so we're not risking it. The laptops and sidekick are charged, though, so there should be some communication with the outside world.

ETA: The probability of the eye passing within 75 miles of us within the next 72 hours is something like 10 per cent. But the likelihood of us getting tropical storm force winds is pushing 100%.
