Top Pentagon civilian and military leaders and the military command in Iraq contributed to an environment in which prisoners suffered sadistic abuse at Abu Ghraib jail, a high-level panel reported on Tuesday.

The independent four-member panel headed by former defense secretary James Schlesinger found that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and the Joint Chiefs of Staff failed to exercise proper oversight over confusing detention policies at U.S. prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Heaven forbid if they admitted that Bush allowed them to torture prisoners at Guantanamo. This led Rumsfeld to send the word down to the Commander in Iraq and this led to Sanchez giving the order to torture prisoner at Abu Ghraib. This isn't political, it's the way this Government has run the 'war on terror'. I know when every soldier gets their uniform, boots, hat, and dog tags they are also issued torture materials. As a former servicemember, I am EXTREMELY offended that this Government would ORDER it's soldiers to commit torture. I wonder what that does, not only to the victim, but to the psyche of the torturer themself. No President, Vice President, Secretary of Defense, Commander in the Field, or Sargeant has a right to tell my kid he HAS to torture someone. This isn't the first violation of human and international law by this administration (and it is this administration) and it won't be the last. I wonder how much America will have to give up with this guy in the White House.
