As the release date for Prisoner of Azkaban approaches, Harry Potter fans all over the world are making plans to get together to see the film.

And since there's a huge number of Harry Potter fans in and around the New York area, we thought, why not have a massive film-going event on the afternoon of June 5 (the day after the US release) at the LOEWS IMAX on the Upper West Side in Manhattan?

The theater's Group Sales Office has given us a chance to purchase discounted tickets as a block, so we can all sit together and watch the film on the larger-than-life IMAX screen, and then we can all adjourn together to for nibbles and post-film analysis somewhere in the neighborhood (location to be announced - we're talking with a Columbus Square bookstore right now).

At this point, we don't have an exact start-time for the film, but the theater tells us it'll start between three p.m. and four-thirty p.m., with the afterparty running from approximately seven-thirty until nine o'clock.

Everyone is welcome, but we ask that kids under fifteen attend with a parent or guardian.

Since we have to buy the tickets ahead of time to get the seats blocked, and to get the discount, ticket orders will be facilitated by FictionAlley.

You can pay with PayPal using the page here until May 31 (or until tickets sell out) or you can send a money order or a check (postmarked by May 15 or until we announce that tickets have sold out) to the address on that page.

If you have any questions, feel free to post at [livejournal.com profile] poa_nyc (more precisely, here)! And if you're sending a check or money order, we'd appreciate it if you'd post here telling us to look for it (but you're not required to do so).

I paid for my tickets already!

What time is the movie though? We are trying to figure out if we should come down to nyc the day before!

I saw! I am so happy you're coming down - I don't think I knew you were!

The movie will not be before 3pm, so it's up to you if you want to drive down at an early hour of the morning.

PS - do I get to meet The Guy?

Yes, David is coming with me! He has been to a lot of fandom stuff the past year so I think he'll be okay with such a huge gathering!

Plus we are satying with my room mates gf. And they will be coming with us too.

I just bought one! :-D

Is there a way, if I can't make it for some reason, my ticket can be given to someone who might not otherwise have got one?

Any idea how quickly it'll sell out? I know it's probably tough to tell at this point, but any guess is fine. :) Turns out I have a bunch of family coming into town that weekend, so they may decide to monopolize me during the weekend proper.

(Otherwise, I'm in for at least three. And excited. whee!)

When I checked at noonish, we'd already sold 17 tickets - 19 including me & aaron. But the theater seats 400, so if we need to extend the block, we can do so, although that'll be easier before May 15.

Sure, you just have to let me know by May 30 who the other person will be, so I have it on the printed lists.

I wish that I didn't graduate that day. I'll just be stuck at my local movie theater.

What a shame I´ve given up my New York flat - still, it would have been excessive to fly from Germany just to watch a film.

A bit off-topic.

Hey Heidi,

Can't help but notice you're using one of the Chamber of Icons avatars in your animated icon, here. Quoting from our TOS:

We've seen some icons around the net that are clearly modified versions of some of our icons ... as it says in the FAQ - no modifying our icons. Please ... all we ask ... is that [visitors] respect the rules which we established from the get-go.

I don't know whether or not you made the icon yourself, and I certainly don't want to attack you - but the "Moony and Padfoot" frame frame is one of ours, and I'm going to have to ask that you edit or remove the animated icon in question. We'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Tinderblast

I certainly have no clue how to make animated icons - I've only been able to make any since earlier this month - and I have no idea who made this one. As I told maddy, I will delete it tomorrow when I'm on my computer - I can't from my sidekick - but please take this as a word of advice. the wording of your 'ToU' doesn't bar this sort of thing, as nothing about the frame is modified - if you want to stop people from using the panels *at all* you need to bar people from 'incorporating any of the icons at the CoI into other icons, regardless of whether credit is given, without obtaining prior permission from' you guys. I don't say this to try and "get off on a technicality" - I say this because I'm looking to the normal definition of 'modified'. Overwriting the words with something else, changing one of them to pink, manipping in an ipod - all modifications. Incorporating into something else really isn't.

We were previously working by the understanding that people would use the spirit of the law rather than the exact phrasing, but your critique is valid, and the ToS is now updated to reflect that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Oh, I agree with you - I just had no clue it had come from your page in the first place. But yeah, especially when you have so many people in the fandom that don't speak English as a first language, it's best to be as precise or comprehensive as possible. And even then, people might twist your definitions for their own twisty purposes, but that's something completely unrelated to this (coughF_Wcough).
