1. I could swear I just heard someone say my name. The thing is, the only people in the room are me and Jon, and while he can say a good "mama!" and a reasonable "dada!" and a pretty fine "Ary!" he certainly cannot say a clear "Heidi."

Plus, last week, a lamp fell over with nobody touching it, and the next day one of Aaron's Batman & Catwoman plates crashed to the floor when someone shut a drawer.

This part of the house is brand new; how can there be a ghost here?

2.
Audrey Horne
You are Audrey Horne. You're spoiled and
manipulative, but you're also whip-smart and
indomitable. You always get your way, even if
you first have to get into deep trouble. You
are so feisty and independent that you like to
think you need no one -- unless, of course, you
WANT them -- but in fact, what you really need
is a good friend.

3. The next time I offer to chaperone on my son's field trip to a petstore and then a tour of an organic grocery store, make sure that at said store, they offer the moms the free cups of wine in the BEGINNING of the tour, not at the end.

4. Jon is now standing without pulling himself up on anything, and is eversovery proud of himself.

5. And I have developed enough of a time crunch that I can't read LJs during the day enough to keep up with them. Right now, I've read back to about 7am today, but haven't gone back to the 3am moment that I stopped reading them overnight. I will try and catch up.

6. Is it so dorquy to think I want one of these?

ETA: am waiting at least a week, as that is my 2 year LJ-versary, and their site says, "We will be adding inline image and internet linking options to this page shortly..." and I want those too, please, thanks.

7.

For the past year, fictionalley's chatroom has been the place for a lot of discussions - some intense, some focused, some goofy and some that were, well, less than we'd hoped.

There were some limitations on the chatroom mods' powers, because of the program we used to host the chatroom, and for a while, we'd been hoping to do some things better, or differently.

So now that it's 2004, we're moving to a new program - and introducing some new things.

First of all, the chatroom is enabled for Voice Chatting.

Second, while the chatroom will still be moderated by FA's official chat mods a few hours each day, we're going to give FA's users a chance to host chats as well. Basically, it's like having a radio show, only online.

There's one catch - since FictionAlley has an educational/informative purpose, the organized chats hosted by FAPers have to have an educational or informative purpose, too.

That means a discussion of anything about writing, creating art, reviewing art or fics, website creation, the HP books or movies, or any other books of any genre, school-related subjects like college issues or application processes for college or grad school, legal issues, ethics, fandom history... The list goes on and on, and we would love to see some creativity in topic suggestions!

Of course, a guild or ship can schedule a time to talk about the slice of canon or writing or art that they find particularly interesting, too, and when there's no specific-themed chat scheduled, the chat room will be open for general chatting, same as it's always been.

If you want to be a Chat Host, you can apply individually, or as part of a group of two or three - it gets hard for us to coordinate if it's more than that, though a larger group, like a ship or a guild, can name one or two people as the coordinators.

Q: What do you do if you want to host one of these chats?

A: Just apply and let us know the subject and the time slot you're interested in!

Use the template below and email it to chatapplication@fictionalley.org and we'll let you know within 3-4 days!

Here's the application:

FA username:
Best email address to contact you at:
Are you applying as the coordinator for a larger group?
Subject/theme for chat:
First choice start time/date/duration:
Second choice start time/date/duration:
Third choice start time/date/duration:

Note: if you've been assessed more than a point in the past 4 months for flaming or been banned for any reason in the three months prior to your application, we'll ask you to reapply later. People who have hacked into FA's system are unable to serve as Chat Hosts.

I would *love* to have my LJ printed out, given that I prefer to have hard copies of such things. It's easier to go back and look at stuff, and I want to be able to keep it long after I wander away from LJ, as I'm sure I will someday. However - how are they calculating a 'page' - one entry per page? If not, how will you know how many pages your blog/LJ will be once it's printed?

Is Jon so advanced because Harry is his model? Or is he just naturally a whiz kid? I can't believe he's doing all that at a bare 8 months! Go Jon!

Built on a graveyard? Okay, I'll go away now.

Every once in a while, I hear people calling my name when no one is around who can speak (assuming that my cats don't speak and I'm sure they don't.) I don't know what it is but it is spooky. Not as spooky as the one house we lived in where we'd hear something knocking on the back door at all hours and answer it to find no one there.

Jon is doing great speaking! I'm sure it helps to have a big brother to listen to all the time.

3. I heart organic grocery warehouses. There's one in Austin, the city to which I shall be moving this summer, and I'm way excited about being able to make a day of buying real food.

5. Give up. I did long ago.

6. Holy hell no, it isn't dorquy [sic]. I want one too!! *prowls website*

Definitely not dorky. It's pretty cool, actually - I want one. It depends on how they charge, though. I have over a 1000 entries...so...

It also depends somewhat on what your house was built on.

*g* I'd love to know the whole story behind that one.

Yay Jon! Sounds like a Kodak moment to me (yes, that's a hint!)

Not dorquy - dangerous.
LJ's front page is specifically warning people about the dangers inherent in giving out your password to services like these.

I'd think twice before signing up for something like that. You may end up with your ID in posts flaming or spamming people all throughout LJ.

It's not dorky, but you have to pay right?

I think the new FA voice chatting is quite the catch. I swear, you guys have doen a great job moderating FA and providing so many fun activities! I would like to host a chat thing, but I don’t think I could think of any topics and I would probably start boring the other people =P, but it’s a great to discuss and get to know people more.

Your son sounds like such a cute little boy ^_^!

I did notice that the [livejournal.com profile] lj_nifty community maintainer posted this (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_nifty/94529.html) yesterday, telling people to be careful with regard to passwords and third party sites. Interestingly, for an official LJ community, they say that a rec on lj_nifty does not mean it is approved in any way by LJ. A most odd situation.

If I did anything like this (and I doubt that I would) then I would be changing to a temp password to give to the third party site and changing to a new password once they had done their work.

However, I do not want a paper copy of my journal and will be avoiding this service.

You do realize that anyone who has your password could easily re-set your password so you wouldn't have access to your own LJ?

So the "temp" password thing isn't really a logical safety precaution.

As long as you have access to e-mail address you originally signed up for you can regain control of your account. Also you can then prove when any changes were made.

Of course these systems are automated web based, so picking an silly time of the day, when the creator is unlikely to be online, will keep it safe. If the system does not work in a few minutes then reset/change the password on the LJ.
