Thanks and all my love to everyone who replied about my friend Sandra. The funeral is tomorrow at 10 am and I'm going with a number of friends - girls I've known since I was one, five, eleven - and we'll cry together and try to be there as much as we can for her family. Her younger brother is a friend of my sister's, so I think there will be some of her friends there as well.

And I wanted to add how brave I think so many of you are, those of you who told stories about losing friends and peers at such young ages, or losing close family when you were so young. It's never easy, no matter how old or how young you are, but there are so many situations that are more traumatizing and heartbreaking than what we, her friends, are going through - I think of her family, her mother and her brother who I know reasonably well - and all I want to do is sob for them.

So we'll pay a long shivah call tomorrow, and we'll remember Sandra with all our hearts and all our love.

It is never easy to lose a loved one, and losing a contemporary is always hard... reminds you that you aren't going to live forever, and while you have health and youth on your side, you never do know. I remember when my mother died (she was 39 and I was a month from becoming 15) and everyone talking about how sad it was that someone so young died. She didn't seem young to me, not at that age, but now that I'm just about a week away from 40, I realize how young she really was.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mourn her, and honor her memory in some way. She's still around, you know.

I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love.
If you want me again look for me under your bootsoles.
You will hardly know who I am or what I mean,
But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood.

Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged,
Missing me one place search another,
I stop somewhere waiting for you.

do not stand at my grave and weep
i am not there
i do not sleep
i am one thousand winds that blow
i am the sun on winter snow
when you awake in morning's hush
i am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight
i am the stars that shine at night
do not stand at my grave and cry
i am not there
i did not die

it's amended as i can't remember all of it but i came across your post. i am so sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. People are always gone too soon from our lives & no one is ever ready to let go at the precise moment the loss happens.

I light a candle for her to find her way to eternal happiness.

*hugs*
