For the past few days, Jon's been the sleepless wonder. He's slept in 90-120 min shifts at night, which means I've been utterly incapable of completing a full REM cycle for a few nights and while we were invited to a party last night, we were far too exhausted to go.

So Harry slept through it, Aaron and I sat with Jon and watched the fireworks behind the big hotels, and then Aaron went back to sleep and Jon and I stayed up until 130.

But then he slept until 600, which means I got very nearly four and a half hours which is a full rem cycle and then some and I feel perfectly wonderful now, which is a great way to start the new year.

Jon's new year's resolution is to learn to walk.
Harry's is to learn to read.
Aaron's are to organize his comic books (yeah, hah!) and lose 20 pounds.
Mine are to organize the books & videos in the sunroom, finish SoC and lose 30 pounds, and I have [livejournal.com profile] fandom_ww for the food-discussion and [livejournal.com profile] 5000_steps for exercise discussion and I'm giving up chocolate because I think the caffine is impacting Jon's sleeps...

Happy new year, all. Stay safe out there!

ETA: I know I'm behind on my birthday wishes, so...

I spent lastnight t00bing online with good friends. No fireworks, unless you count me shrieking happily over the fic-gift that I got ;)

Hope you all get your resolutions to come true. I think I'm going to be joining [livejournal.com profile] fandom_ww myself. Have about the same to lose.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! >:D

Jon's new year's resolution is to learn to walk.

That's so sweet. Is he making moves in that direction already?? :-O I mean, he's not quite 7 months yet, is he? For some reason this reminded me of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. "Sunny's New Year's resolution is to stock up on teething rings." :)

He's crawling up a storm, sometimes straight-legged, and he cruises a little bit around the ottoman, so yes. Babies have such simple resolutions. I tried to talk him into resolving to sleep through the night, but he said, "wah."

(1) Hi. I really enjoy reading your journal - it's always nice to see 30-somethings-with-kids around the fandom. Solidarity and all that. I've friended you in honor of it. (And I just posted a mini-ramble on age and the fandom, so this is all on my mind at the moment.)
And screw it - I love my Odyssey. Honestly don't know what I would do without LATCH seats, and the sliding seat in the 2nd row....

(2) We share family resolutions! Owen is resolved to learn to read by 2005, and the New Year's Resolution thing worked so well for potty-training we're trying it this year for reading. Are you teaching him yourself/is he in school/do you have a plan? We're behind this year and I feel a need lately to put together some sort of actual approach to this reading thing rather than just going at it willy-nilly.

As for sleeping - I feel your pain. Neither of my kids have been sleepers in their first years. Annie is 15 months and just now starting to sleep reasonably well, although she still wakes obscenely early to nurse. Her NY resolution - moving to her own big-girl bed.

And, of course, Marc and I share your get the house together/weight control resolutions. Again.

Isn't working with the little ones to make the resolutions so cute? I'm not even sure Harry really comprehends the idea of different years, separate from his birthday, so we've tied it to *my* birthday which is in 12 days :)

Have you joined the Potter_Parents Yahoogroup, btw? Not so much traffic, but a good fandom-parents meetinspace which is a bit less public than LJ. And given your weight contro resolution, try [livejournal.com profile] fandom_ww as well - it's a nicely developing support group!

Harry, btw, is in pre-K, and will be in kindergarden in August at the public school near our house. He's learned through a combination of school and us, with some pushing from my parents, who live nearby, too. He's great with letters, and for some reason he can sight-read things like Apatasaurus and Tyranosaurus Rex, but not, you know, ball.

Um. Must go. Jon just stood up O_O
