Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca, learn what happens when kids play video games from their parents' era.

And now, I must confess that I had both E.T. and the Empire Strikes Back game (because Revenge Return of the Jedi - The Movie hadn't been released yet. But my favorite videogame was SuperPacMan - no idea why I was better at that than the regular PacMan games, but I liked it more.

Of course, we're taching Harry about skeeball, air hockey and pinbal, thanks to Chuck E. Cheese, these days...

For some freakish reason I was *only* good at Galaxian and absolutely sucked at everything else.

One word: MAME. A bit later you'll get to the part about "now where do I get a SuperPacMan ROM from?". Hem hem.

Of course, we're taching Harry about skeeball, air hockey and pinbal, thanks to Chuck E. Cheese, these days...

*applauds* Definitely a good upbringing. And, hey, the fact that it's Chuck E. Cheese means there's an Atari connection, what with Nolan Bushnell founding them both!

This was so much fun to read. Thank you for posting the link. I've only ever played ping pong and space invaders, but still feel positively ancient! ;)

Waah! I liked that ET game!

What's sad is, I'm not even 25 yet and this still made me feel positively ancient. I remember when I saw the first King's Quest game--I thought it was the most advanced thing ever. *sigh*

I think some kids are too overindulged these days. My 15-year-old cousin grew up on Atari and original Nintendo because her mother couldn't afford anything else.

Hi Heidi,

I sent you an email to heidi8@livejournal.com with subject line "TLC article" last weekend but as yet I haven't heard back from you. I'm just wondering if you had gotten it?...or should I just assume it's being ignored. LOL

Erm, you didn't sign this so I don't know who this is, but I don't have anything with that subject in my tlc folder so, no, it's not being ignored but I'm just not sure I got it. Feel free to resend, though!

Thanks for the link to the article Heidi.

And Oh! Me too! I'm just 22 and a half and this article made me feel so old - it's like sheesh - kids these days have many more options!

I remember playing pong on my uncle's Atari pre-Nintendo - and then I remember Donkey Kong and Super Mario Brothers and Tetris - how do you go wrong with tetris? LOL

Just to clarify, I sent it to your heidi8@livejournal.com account. I didn’t/don’t know your TLC inbox address. I know I typed the address correctly but perhaps it disappeared in cyberspace somewhere? Anyway, I’m up to my eyes now and for the next couple of weeks so I’m afraid I won’t have time to retype as it was quite long and would involve further typing too. I was just curious as to what happened. Oh well never mind.

Thanks anyway.
