The good and bad about today + a favour
Jan. 15th, 2003 07:17 pmFirst, the bad - one of my dad's oldest friends (going back over 45 years) whose son was in school with me from the time we were about 5 died today during an operation to repair his leg, which was seriously damaged in a snorkling accident a few weeks ago (the accident was strangely remniscient of the one that killed Kirsty MacColl two years ago). We were all in tears at various times during my birthday dinner tonight, and I still can't shake the feeling of just total and complete sadness on this day - which is in such stark contrast to everything else.
And among the everything else, of course, were all those wonderful greetings I saw in my mailbox, via YM and email, and from JK Rowling today. No, she didn't drop me an email or anything - but isn't it just a wonderful gift of information?
I spent my lunch hour on south beach with
thezeppo, where we chatted about his tour of the UK and the US so far - and only 2 minutes before I had to drop him off did I learn that like
loupnoir, he is a die-hard fan of Chess (the UK version more than the US one). Ah, must get back to that Brat!Ron as Freddie fic someday.
We're off to LA tomorrow through late, late Monday night - there is supposedly high speed internet access in the hotel, but who knows how much online time I'll have. So don't expect to find me on YM, or think that I'll be able to stay up to date with LJ. I will have the blackberry in hand, though, so I'll be quite reachable via email. heidi@fictionalley is always a good bet.
: schnoogles and hugs everyone
