Initially, we thought I was due on May 18. Then, based on measurements at my first appointment, my doctor determined that May 29 was more likely.

However, given certain physical things, like when I first felt the baby move, we now can safely say that we have no fricking clue when it is. But rather than just say "End of May" my doctor now wants me to have my diagnostic ultrasound on the early side - like in the next 2 weeks.

Because it's *easy* to get a doctor's appointment this time of year, as *nobody* is traveling.

Oh well, if it happens in 3 weeks, it'll still be fine.

I don't really care about the exact date, as I have nothing else booked for the end of May, but my mum (whose 35th reunion, which she is chairing, is May 15) and my husband (whose 15th reunion, which he is on the board for, is the last weekend in May) do.

And they both think they'll be able to attend! Hahahaha!

The good news from the visit today is that I've only gained five pounds. Total. Since I got pregnant. Nice to know that working out is really making a difference this time - and I start prenatal yoga the second week of January. I'm waiting on the results of the AFP test and then I think I'll be able to relax into the rest of the pregnancy completely...

Well, end of May is still cool, you get an almost certainty of being able to hold birthday celebratiions outside. ( I'm a May baby myself... so I would think May is a good month to be born...)

May or June... both great months to have birthdays and you won't be pregnant in the dead of summer! Should be interesting now to see when baby decides to come along.

I feel bad...I didn't know you were preggers. Congratulations, Heidi!!!!!!

My sister-in-law is due January 27 but the doctor is now saying she's running about 9 days ahead of schedule so that puts her at January 18. She's REALLY big, though. It's a boy....a very big boy. I won't be surprised if it ends up over 9 pounds. But with her luck she'll not deliver until February. It'll overcook. :-)

Anyway, congrats. That's wonderful.

Five pounds only so far? Wow, go you!

An AFP or Tripple Screen test can tell if the baby is at an increased risk of having certain birth defects. However, a "positive" or abnormal result does not mean for certain that baby has a problem as only about 10 percent of women with abnormal results turn out to have babies with birth defects. In general, an abnormal result means only that you may need further testing, such as ultrasound or amniocentesis, to know for sure.

Since a diagnostic ultrasound is required for me, already, to date the pregnancy, I nearly put the AFP on hold pending the results of that, but since it's just a simple blood test, it was easy enough to do now.

so exciting!

My doctor changed my due date multiple times also. I kept telling her that my cycle is all wacky and really late sometimes, but she still calculated my initial due date as April 9 or 10 based on my LMP. (sorry, brace yourself for pregnancy lingo.) When we had our ultrasound the baby confirmed what I'd suspected all along - due date more like April 15-17. I wouldn't be surprised if she arrives even later.

Good luck with the AFP test. We had one too - it's not fun waiting for the results but it's a good thing to do. Try not to stress too much :)

So cool that you've only gained 5 lbs! That's right on target I think. I was similar, I had only gained about 5 pounds right up until my 20-21 week appointment, and then whammo! baby explosion. (Thanksgiving probably helped.)

Thanks for sharing your news :)

Well, since we're all rooting for our own birthdays, I'll vote for May 16. May/June is a really great time for a birthday, BTW, since it's almost exactly halfway through the year from the December gift frenzy.

Are you having the 3D ultrasound? Those are very cool. Having the ultrasound on the early side could make it difficult to find out the sex, that is, if you want to know.

Oh, and yoga, prenatal or otherwise, is a wonderful thing.

May's a lovely month to be born in (says she of the May birthday), so's June. Hopefully she'll be here before it gets too hot!

Congratulations on only gaining five pounds so far. Yoga's great for weight control and easing your stress (I've heard some say that it makes delivery easier too).

Good luck to you—and your mom and husband (would he want to take you and Offspring to the reunion?)! Here's hoping (because it makes such a difference ;) ) for mid-May, so s/he can have her/his birthday before school ends.

Seeing the baby again = cool. I've loved every chance I got to see our baby, even though this last time it was hard to see her -- just limbs and movement, mostly. (3D? Does not work on our child. She hides from the camera.)

May -- it'll be hot, in S. Florida, but at least it won't be that nasty late summer heat! Looks like your husband and mum will both have to plan their events and then put them in others' capable hands. Hee. :)

I am so pleased for you Heidi that everything is progressing well, and you are feeling fit and healthy. Speaking as a May baby (*preens self*), it is an excellent time to be born! Even if you knew the exact due date, babies have a funny habit of arriving either early, or late! Starting their lives by disrupting well-laid plans *g*. All the best for the remaining months.
(PS: Could you email me your address? I have an HP gift to send you. Thanks!)

dude, how many hugs have you received so far?? *laughs*

I need to tell you how much I admire your discipline. Working out is something I don't do even when I have all the time in the world, and you just have so much energy and time management skills that you can do not only that but prenatal yoga too AT CHRISTMASTIME while running a fandom and working as a lawyer. You quite amaze me, Heidi.

I feel exhausted just writing this.

Well from what I've seen of friend's and family's babies, they'll come when they want too, no when the doc thinks they will.

Just imagine.

There was a whole lot of confusion about my mom's due date, and she went in for an ultrasound. They told her she was having TWINS. *evil grin* Muaha. And indeed, I now have twin little sisters (currently age 8). >:)

The way I look at it is this - when do *you* think the baby is due? When I was pregnant with Nyssa the doctor kept changing my due date. I figured she was due the end of July, but the doctors told me everything from the 1st to the 20th. Turned out I was right, she was born on the 30th.

Awesome that you've only gained 5 pounds. Go you!

I know what you're talking about with the appointments -- my father's and ob/gyn and I'm working his office for him while my mum recovers from surgery.

Oh what fun with the little cup and the scales and the forms.
