It was just announced on HPfGU-Convention that the bid & biz plan presented by the Orlando team (of which I am a part) has been told by the HPfGU mods that it will have their support (and that of FictionAlley and The Leaky Cauldron too!)

That means that all of you should plan to be in Orlando in July, 2003 - we're going to have a great event covering all aspects of the books - from SHIPs to psychology and law to fanfic and fanart (gallery, anyone?). More plans to come!

Sheryll gave me the link to Gwen's survey on the conference; I tried to answer it, got a page error (presumably because I wasn't logged in to livejournal at the time), logged in, went back to redo it, and was told I'd already responded. So whatever. Just FYI.

I won't be able to go!!!! Waaaah!!!

Unfortunately, 2003 is the same year the family is holding a huge family reunion in Newfoundland so I need to save up all my vacation time for that. While I love Harry Potter and Florida is one of the few states I've actually not been to, and I have lots of friends down that way, I'd much rather see my granny and grandad who will both be 85 in 2003 (and of course my own father who I haven't seen in three years).

But I will be with you all in spirit and will certainly wish and hope the convention will go with few hitches and that everyone will have a blast!

Hrm. Dammit, I'm going to be going to Malaysia at the start of 2004. So no trips to the US for me. *sniff*

Yegads. And the Convention sounds soo much like one of my dreams, too.

The answers seem to get tagged as counted anyway - it's a weird little bug but since they're hosting us for free, there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it, unfortunately.

What date?

Has the date of the convention been announced yet? Cos I'm supposed to be graduating on 18/19 July 2003, and I can't really miss that... But if it's either significantly before or any time after 19 July, then I can come.

Squeeeee!

Yay! I am so glad!
Now I have a *chance* of convincing my parents to let me go!
So does this mean that the convention is moved or Orlando, or will there be two?

Orlando is the location in 2003. The Ottawa Bid Team (Sheryll? Any different name for it, or will that do for now?) is preparing a bid to submit by the end of this year with plans to do the 2004 event, which I understand will be in the Summer of 2004.

So the best answer to "will there be two?" is "we hope there will be hundreds! HP symposia for decades to come!"

Silly answer: For you, go south. Pretty much straight down south.

Serious answer: We're working on one of those exchange tables- one of those things that says how many of X you have to give up each week to do Y. Probably something like a bagel & grande latte each day for a year = airfare, hotel, meals, reg. fees and stuff. But that's just an approximation.

hmmm...

Hey, that chick you gave my email to never got back to me... does that mean y'all are dispensing with the boring academia bit of the convention and have no need of any college-teachin' New Yorker like myself? :(

NO! We're definitely not dispensing with the academic/literary tracks! Did you join the convention list? I think there's going to be a post from the programming team in the next week or so about this!

Some help please!!

Heidi,

I can totally go to the convention! Orlando is within driving distance for me and near my dad as well. I haven't joined HPfGU so what do I do? Join the convention group only? What about this survey Gwen posted? Please let me know! Thanks a million!

It did that for me too, so I wasn't able to say that I could help. I already emailed the Convention list, and Orca/Kim, got back to me, but again, if there's anything I can do, I go to UCF in Orlando, so I'll be there all year. :)

That name will do for now. Heidi's got it, our bid will go in by the end of the year for a summer 2004 event here in Ottawa.

You don't have to join HPfGU - but scroll up - I just posted a link to the convention group, which you certainly should join asap. We've just put out a call for volunteers!

How wonderful! I've got about a 50/50 chance of making Orlando, but I'll be SO there for Ottawa in 2004! I think it's just great that HP fans are having conventions... we're all growing up... *sniff*
