my weekend, briefly
Jun. 17th, 2002 09:37 amAm stull catching up with the LJ universe - I am back as far as Sunday morning now, and still have 2 days to read. I will try, but if I don't comment it does not mean I don't loff you. It just means I have no time.
Weekend in NYC was terrific, although I missed Harry terribly and couldn't sleep well because I'm so used to listening for him if he wakes. Hotel - the Barbizon - was cute, although the rooms were so so so tiny - good for one person, but that's about it. I think we'll need to choose something more spacious if we do the CoS premire weekened in NYC.
Saw Cassie and Penny on Friday, where we discussed [many things I cannot talk about publicly] ha! fake LJ cut!, saw the trailer with Ali and Cassie, then walked out of the terrible thing that was Scooby Doo, and saw Jenny from Ravenclaw from HPfGU on Saturday in the midst of seeing RL friends. Spent Saturday night with Cassie, Ali, Ali's sweet boyfriend, and various of their friends - I was surrounded by the 21 - 26 year old contingent. And I was the only person at the table who ordered a drink - an amaretto & diet coke (tastes like Dr Pepper) and...
I.
Got.
Carded.
I have not been so flattered in a decade.
A decade!
I am so old. Am off to retire now and collect Socialite Security. Actually, no, am simply off to work. Will try to read more LJ stuff later.
One more thing - FA is being flooded with new submissions - we had pushing 200 over the weekend. Our turnaround time for new authors is probably going to be closer to a week to 10 days now, but if you've got a chapter on the site already, you'd be helping us and speeding the time it takes your fic to get onto the site by including links to the prior (and next, if you're submitting more than 1 chapter at a time) chapter, to your Author Page, and to your reviewboard, where you've already set up a review thread. Now that the submission page is so easy, it's just a matter of cutting & pasting, so please, please, please do it. It's for the good of everyone, or something really grandiose like that.

Date: 2002-06-17 08:22 am (UTC)Mostly my envy is of you fandom goddesses being able to meet up and spend fun times together (mopes at ridiculous commuting distance from my place to the Barbizon - probably only 26 hours door to door.....) but also, Heidi, how adorable to be carded! No wonder you were chuffed! One day I hope to be able to see the living proof that you are the youngest lawyer ever to graduate, at the tender age of 11! At least when you collect Harry from the child care centre they don't ask if you are the mother or the grandma (well, actually, that was not me, it was a friend...... but my daughter bemoans that she has the oldest parents in her class!) Wish i could help with enormous FA workload, but all I can do is swear that I will not add mine to the 200 submissions. Good luck and don't kill yourself with all the work, please!

Date: 2002-06-17 08:50 am (UTC)Actually...
I wasn't 11.
I was 24. I was the youngest person in my law school, when I started at American, by about 3 days - there was another girl whose birthday was a few days before mine. It's strange, recalibrating my mind to Not Being The Youngest anymore - it's a strange mindset, when you're used to it. I always was the youngest in class - if not absolutely, then there were 2-3 people younger than me. And Harry's going to have the same thing, being an August baby in a world where the cutoff date is September 1.
Also, two of the moms of kids in Harry's class are younger than me - but that means that 9 are older than me - and most of the kids in the class are Eldests, so it's not like they're all on Child #3 and I'm on #1.

Date: 2002-06-17 09:30 am (UTC)Anyhow, NYC is not definite for me, as yet - Orlando may still happen - but I'm leaving both options open for now.

Date: 2002-06-17 11:07 am (UTC)Really? Not that I drink much (or at all), but yummy! I'm kind of a Dr. Pepper addict.
And for the record, the largest movie screen in Texas is about a half an hour from my house. Everyone should come here to see CoS!
