The house I lived in from the time I was 18 months old until I was 8 has been torn down.

It was there last week.

I don't know what they did with the terrazzo floor in the family room, or the statue of a lion in the front of the house, or the wooden walls in my sister's room which looked like there were bugs flattened on them at night (the patterning, but when you're 5, you think otherwise). The stone gravel in front has been pulled away, the pool seems to have been filled in, and the really cool tree in back is completely gone. So is the outdoor fireplace thingy where my sister and I used to put leaves.

The only thing left is the fence that keeps you from falling right into Biscayne Bay.

When I was 7, we went to Philadelphia and visited the house my mum had grown up in; my grandma's best friend still lived next door, so they knew to expect us, and we swam and it was wonderful.

I'll never be able to take Harry to my childhood home.

And that's a Monday, in and of itself.
