heidi: (Son of Coul)

Don't read unless you've seen Avengers, or are willing to read spoilers for two major plot points, including one that comes in the last five minutes of the film. If you'd rather read my not-very-spoilery review at Hypable, it's here.

Theory #1, re Son of Coul
So, Son of Coul is stabbed by Loki, then after Loki escapes Fury comes to him and Phil says a few last words and then looks to expire and the medic team shows up but we see nothing more of Phil or the medics.
So with all SHEILD's tech and abilities, they can't staunch a stab wound, or enable someone to recover from it? I've seen a few theorize that the Coulson who confronted Loki was a decoy, and I don't want to believe that because I think Coulson's bravery and actions in that scene are 100% him, in the moment, but I do also want to believe that SHIELD tech was able to patch him back up and revive him.
And Fury lied! Why go through so much trouble to show us that Fury lied about the cards to manipulate Steve and Tony, if it's not going to have some degree of future payoff?

Theory #2, re Loki
Loki's hold over Clint is broken by a head injury that knocks him out.
Loki's hold over Selvig is broken by a head injury that knocks him out.
Loki suffers a head injury when Hulk flops him around like a rag doll in Stark Tower that seems to knock him out, and once he's awake again, he doesn't do anything to escape, or taunt anyone or try anything to injure anyone - and it looks to be at least the next day before he goes back to Asgard.
Is it possibly, theoretically possible that while Loki did seek out the Teseract, he was in thrall to it, under its spell, or otherwise not completely operating of his own free will, until he had that head injury that knocked him out?
It's not a complete erase button for the worst things he did in this film, but it would provide a fulcrum to jump off from if they do want a redemption arc in Thor 2, as Hiddleston has cryptically hinted at. Not quite Journey to Mystery-style, but a step in that direction.

And am I the only one who thinks Loki conjured up some Asgardian Popcorn while watching Thor, Iron Man and Captain America have their little fight in the forest? I was so glad that they realized that he wanted to be on the helicarrier - for whatever reason - immediately - because why else would he have stayed on that cliff, watching them?

Also, where was Thor hiding those magic-binding chains and that gag the whole time? In his pants? In one of those wormhole-boltholes like Loki used for the Cask in Thor?
