Doctor, Doctor, Doctor
1. Doctor Who
My kids often watch the vids I make - and sometimes have requests. Jon now wants me to do an entire vid of nothing but spinning Daleks and K-9, and he actually
He also has taken to spinning in circles and saying "Help me! Help me!" in a robotic sort of voice. I really ought to film him doing it.
If I'm not careful, he'll want to be a Dalek for Halloween. But he does have Ecclestone-esque ears, so maybe I can talk him into going as Nine.
2. Doctor Crane
Tiny cameo in the film! Underused, I thought at that moment, but it was all okay in the end because if anything could make me push aside that doctor, it was the awesomeness of Bale, Ledger, Eckart, Freeman, Gyllenhall (I'm glad they didn't make anything pseudo-erotic out of the scene with Maggie and Heath because (a) it would have been too reminiscent of Nicholson and (b) it's not like Heath was actually collecting Gyllenhaals.) and Caine. Eric Roberts was ubercreepy, as usual (I love the fact that the guy actually has a career these days!) and I almost didn't notice Anthony Michael Hall!
I have to admit that in some ways, I prefer "origin stories" - I loved Batman Begins beyond all measure, and I probably was as entertained by Iron Man, if not more. But this was just a phenomenally put together film, from the score to the editing, to - obviously - the script and acting. It made you *think*, and wonder both during the film and after, and that's a wonderful thing for any film to do. And weirdly enough, I love how nobody in the film knows or learns everything that's going on. Bruce never learns what's in Rachel's letter, the city never learns what Harvey really did - I wonder if Bruce ever explicitly tells Alfred or Lucius? - and there are so many open questions at the end of the movie about little tiny things that could definitely crop up in subsequent films.
There will be at least one more, won't there?
3. Doctor Horrible
I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday morning and wondered if it was up, and it was right there in my iTunes download-list, so I downloaded it, plugged in the earphones, and fifteen minutes later completely floored at what Joss et al had done. Yes, I'd assumed Penny was d00med, but the twist of Hammer shooting her and the ray backfiring and Horrible being blamed - and then that last shot of Billy?
Meep.
I've seen a lot of discussion over what that last shot meant - was it that all this had happened in Billy's head? I don't think so, nor do I think that the real Doctor Horrible is in the room with the ELoE and that last Billy-line is in *his* head - I saw it as a time-jump, that after Doctor Horrible finished that meeting, he came home and tried to do his blog about it, and that's all that came out. That's all he could say, while he was thinking back to the rest of it.
I'm probably completely wrong, though.
I do agree with what
deirdre_c said here - I too enjoyed the heck out of it and I can't stop singing Laundry Day - or, in fact, timing my speaking cadences to the rhythm of the song and my GOD I hope I can manage to stop that soon because I'm annoying myself by saying "anyway" far too often! (is anyone else doing this?) - but I "can sympathize with the pov of those of you who are utterly pissed (but should not be surprised) at Joss killing off 1) the Woman, 2) the Love Interest, 3) the Innocent, 4) all of the above."
Not cutting the next part because I don't think the fact that Penny wears clothing in Act III is a spoiler.
Weirdly enough, I actually own the dress that Penny wears in Act III - I got it at Anthropologie back in March to possibly wear to the EyeCon banquet (although I didn't) and I am now considering getting a beige sweater to wear over it and wearing it on Friday to the comic con session on Doctor Horrible. I've never cosplayed before, and this is probably not exactly that, but, should I? Or would it be weird/silly/a bad decision?
Speaking of
deirdre_c, as I was doing before - anyone want a sneak preview of the vid I did for her birthday? ;)

Breaking out the Dalek Slytherin icon for Jon.

Also, I like the duet when Dr Horrible realises Penny is going out with Captain Hammer. <3 <3 <3

And yeah, Sam is just so "yeah, let me get you out of these ropes, and you clearly need some R&R after this!" So how could I not use it?
I've been blithering about vidding to this song for months, ever since

Have you looked at the fan group on Facebook? They have behind the scenes photos.

And yes, you should wear the dress! It'll be subtle enough of a costume that only the die-hard fans will get it.

And I love the ambiguousness! Only Joss could create something that you can debate about extensively *and* hum along to!
So keep your head up, Billy-buddy!

Know where I can get the sweater by Thursday?
