Bush said something sensible on Friday.
No, not that Bush. His brother. The guy who's the governer of my (often silly) state.
Jeb, I still don't support many of your policies, but I now have a smidge of respect for you - moreso than I do for people like the congressman who said that any protest against or disagreement with the war is treasonous.

In our country, people may not agree with my brother's actions. But in our country, we can express our opinion...

Certainly they have the right to say anything they like, even if I think it was supremely stupid. But then I have the right to no longer buy their CDs. And from the way their record sales have plummetted, it looks like others are exercising that same right.

The problem arises when people confuse this with the right to be listened to. If you can't make an audience listen, that's *your* problem. All you are guaranteed is the right to try.
*sigh* And I do wish the Chicks would have just shut up and sung.

If I were
So I'm glad Heidi's not me, since I'd like to read DV12 soon too. On the other hand, if her computer's crashed or she has a medical emergency or she just has a hundred other things to do today, or even had a lapse of memory, I know how to cross my legs and wait. It's not like the chapter's going to go *off* if we don't devour it right away.

In others, too. Go Germany!
Ah, the confluence of free speech and the free market!
One is left to wonder if the apology was truly an act of contrition, a change of heart, or simply a rush to maintain her cash flow. I might have been more impressed by her convictions if she had never apologized at all, or if she had more precisely articulated her opposition in the first place.
